McDyess back for another year.

I'm sure ya'll heard the news. Dice is putting off the retirement plans.

Good thing or bad thing?

Dice has been awesome with his defense, energy, and shooting. The problem isn't with his play. It's his contract. The Spurs are currently a few dollars under the tax and not counting last year, we're almost always a under the tax team.

We currently have no one in the rotation with an expiring contract but they'll all have raises in their contracts next year. I was hoping that if Dice retires, then Peter Holt will probably use the MLE to get someone this summer. Battier, Prince, and Mbah A Moute tops my list and could very well be had for the MLE.

What I can't see is for the team to keep Dice on the payroll, along with the increases (raises) in basically everyone's contract, while also adding an MLE player. That'll push us into something like 10 mil over the tax.

I'm also reminding everyone that I think next year is the year Splitter should get bigger minutes, Blair becomes even better, and a lot less of Dice. The only way I can see Holt keeping the team together while also adding someone with the MLE is if we actually won the title or got to the Finals. Or perhaps lose in a very close game 7 to the eventual NBA Champion (Lakers).

For me, Dice announcing his return for another year didn't exactly make me happy. Especially if my prediction about Holt not using the MLE this summer comes true.

I feel its agood thing and a bad thing what he brings at game time that u dont see in the stats is huge. On the flip side getting a player like Battier, Prince, and Mbah A Moute would be better that a 37yo Dice. I like all of those guys anyone of them would fit nicely in to the rotation I like Mbah A Moute the best out of three he has the best upside and hes young (and could be our new bowen). That just my thoughts on the issue.

Under the current CBA it looks like we'll be strapped for cash this summer if he comes back. But we'll have to see what the new CBA looks like.

I think it's definitely a case of '1 in the hand worth 2 in the bush'. We just dont know what would be available in the off season, so knowing that Dice is coming back is more valuable than the possibility of those other guys IMO.
