I don't think it means he requested it, frankly I doubt he did because he's always struck me as enough of a pragmatist to know such a request wouldn't get him very far.
I think he meant that he was kept apprised of the LAA situation and asked if he'd be okay with the trade as it developed and he appreciated that AA didn't let trade talks become public before it was completed.
I could be wrong, but that's how I interpret it.
Of course, it's so ludicrous to put the two deals in the same context. I'm sure AA wanted the papers signed before anyone heard a word so LAA didn't have a chance to read the articles and back out, but I seem to remember plenty of juice and innuendo out there when Halladay was being shopped.
I don't know how much comes from the internal part of a club, but you can't know that for Young either. Just saying I wouldn't give AA too much credit for being classy or lambast TEX too much for shopping in public on this one. There are times when the media is a tool and times when it's a hindrance and I think any GM worth anything plays that game.
