The Nets really are run by morons. After striking out in 2010, you'd think, hey, 2012 is our next big shot, and we'll be moving to Brooklyn then, maybe we should sign small deals, suck a lot, and get some great picks, but no, they went and gave a retardedly huge deal to Outlaw, and signed Farmar and Petro to 2013. And, of course, they signed a coach nobody wants to play for.
Maybe if Prokhorov actually used the internet he'd know how bad he is at running his franchise.

Denver's new strategy: sign extension with New Jersey or get a deal under the new CBA and don't even ask for an extension from us because you ain't getting it.

Re: OT: Nets & Nuggets Reach Agreement On Trade; Now Its Up To CA
Rosenberg nailed it with this..... I couldn't agree more. And yes, this has ruined three teams seasons and really made a mockery of the NBA's own rules.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/w ... index.html
This is not just a farce. It is a league-approved farce. And it is another example of something that drives people inside the NBA crazy: the perception that the league selectively enforces its rules.
Players are not allowed to request trades publicly. Consider: When Nate Robinson played for the Knicks (or, more accurately, when Robinson was NOT playing for the Knicks), his agent, Aaron Goodwin, said he had requested a trade. Robinson was fined $25,000.
When Stephen Jackson played for the Warriors, he told people at a charity event that he was "looking to leave" Golden State. This was not a secret to the Warriors. He said it during the summer, before training camp began. The NBA fined him $25,000.
And when Rudy Fernandez's agent, Andy Miller, publicly said Fernandez would rather play in Europe than for the Trail Blazers, the Spanish guard got slapped with a $25,000 fine.
In all three instances, the NBA issued a statement explaining that the players were fined for "for public statements detrimental to the NBA."
And, of course, owners are not allowed to tamper with other teams' players. Heck, last year, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban had the audacity to say, "Come July 1, yeah, of course, anybody would be interested in LeBron James," which might have been the least controversial statement Cuban has ever made, and the NBA fined him $100,000. He spoke publicly about wanting another team's player. That's a no-no.
Meanwhile, Carmelo Anthony can talk to owners about switching teams, and David Stern just whistles and pretends he doesn't see anything. It's all OK, because Anthony has not publicly said, "I want to be traded."
Presumably, Prokhorov (and potentially Dolan) has the Nuggets' and league's approval to talk to Anthony. And if I chose to meet with Jim Dolan because I wanted to work for him, I'd fine myself. That isn't the point. This entire episode has made a mockery of the Nuggets' season. It has put other important Denver players, most of the Nets' roster and both teams' fan bases in a terrible spot. But, hey, as long as Anthony doesn't publicly say, "I want a trade," then the NBA has no problem with it.
The NBA should look at its collective bargaining agreement. Section 35(e): "Any Player who, directly or indirectly, entices, induces, persuades or attempts to entice, induce, or persuade any Player, Coach, Trainer, General Manager or any other person who is under contract to any other Member of the Association to enter into negotiations for or relating to his services or negotiates or contracts for such services shall, on being charged with such tampering."
That is exactly what is happening here. It's not a secret. And it's a joke. Can somebody really tell me that Cuban's saying that anybody would want to have the best player in the NBA is bad for the league, but Anthony's interviewing for other jobs in the middle of the season is not?
This is the NBA in 2011, where players are required to show absolute loyalty to their employers 100 percent of the time, except when they aren't.

The news Saturday afternoon from Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov’s assistant that he has no plans to meet with Carmelo Anthony during All-Star Weekend can easily be perceived as great news for the Knicks.
So can the New York Times report that Anthony has told associates that he wouldn’t sign an extension with the Nets if the Nuggets traded him there.
Unless Denver has another team up its sleeve, it means the Knicks would essentially be bidding against themselves for Carmelo.

Boogydown, that article is like half a day old. The Daily News and Adrian Woj have confirmed that Anthony is meeting with the Nets tonight. And I don't know why a statement from Prokhorov's assistant means anything to anyone. Prokhorov said they were out of it for good two months ago and was clearly lying.

The long-awaited meeting between Carmelo Anthony and the New Jersey Nets took place late Saturday afternoon at a Los Angeles-area restaurant, according to a league source.
The Nets owner, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, and minority owner Jay-Z informed Anthony of the club's short-term and long-term vision -- the certainty of their move to Brooklyn for the start of the 2012-13 season, as well as their plans to build a championship-caliber team around him, largely through free agency.
Anthony was noncommittal after hearing the Nets' presentation, neither saying he would sign or refuse to sign the three-year, $65 million contract extension that is a prerequisite for the deal. He told the Nets he will think about the situation and that he would like to have a resolution before the end of the weekend.
The meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes. In addition to Prokhorov and Jay-Z, Nets general manager Billy King and CEO Brett Yormark were also present. Anthony was joined by his agent Leon Rose, as well as his business manager, Bay Frazier.

I really, really, really, really, don't like Melo...

Yup....it is nothing but leverage....
I was once married...and it didn't work out. There was cheating or drugs or anything like that involved...just two different people that were better off as friends than husband and wife. As much as we may have wanted to keep it together...you get to a point when you know....IT...IS...DONE.
I think Denver has finally hit that point. They don't care if Melo signs an extension with them or not. There goal is to no longer keep Melo....but to get best deal they can for Melo....and I don't blame.
Melo wants NY....he bluffs Denver by saying it isn't about the money (Trade me to NY...or lose me for nothing). NY has all the leverage.
Denver wants to keep Melo...or at least not get killed in a trade....but they finally understand that they can't make him happy, and they have no leverage....a mental switch is flipped. If Melo is gone at the end of the year regardless....get what you can for him...and since Melo has stated that he does not care about the money...Melo should have no problem be rented by Houston for a few months...
Except....Melo really does care about the money....but at this point...Denver does not care if Melo stays or goes. He has clearly mailed it in. Melo put Denver between a rock and a hard spot....but in doing so...he forced Denver into calling his own bluff.
Enter NJ....again... NJ has nothing to lose. The worst thing that can happen is they don't get a player that had no intentin of signng with them anyway.....but the at least get to inflate the price that NY has the place. The best thing that can happen is they some how "get the girl"....
This is delicious....
The whole thing falls on Melo and his money....
Jealousy is a sickness.......get well soon....

If I'm New Jersey, I just do the deal if they really want him that bad. As much as Lala and Melo want New York, they're not going to leave 30-40 million on the table just to be in a different borrough. It wouldn't make any sense for him to do so. Hell, he could still live in Manhattan if that's what he wants.
If I'm Denver, and NJ no longer wants him, I also call his bluff. Because again, I don't see him turning down the money to just play in New York.

For pete's sake I will be glad when this drama is over Melo is no MJ,Bird,Kobe, or Magic why the media act like he is the missing piece for the Knicks finals run. I blame Stern for this whole Bron,Wade,Bosh, and now Melo drama, Stern push for this player first league in a few years you are going three or four mega-teams and it's getting old.

Personally, I don't see the big knock against the Nets. Yeah, people point out that it will be a while until the move, but man: they have a real opportunity. The renders I've seen of that stadium are awesome, and it's in an awesome location. Brooklyn is hot these days. You build that thing, and people will come. Is it a challenge? Sure. But that's half the fun. If the Nets made wise moves post-Anthony, it's not a stretch to believe that they could surpass the Knicks BB-wise reasonably quickly, and when they move to Brooklyn, watch out. The hype of a stadium in Brooklyn and a home-town star could be a potent mixture, IMO.

My question:
If you are Denver...how much would you want him back?
If I'm Denver...I view Melo as strictly an asset at this point. If he comes back...that is fine...if he wants an extension....that is fine. But if another team (Houston or NJ) is willing to offer up decent assets for the newly extended Melo....he is out the door.

I would give up Deng and a few first rounders for a few months of rental for Melo. I dont know if the Nuggets would bite though.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with 7-8 superteams battling it out in the playoff. That kind of stuff will go on NBA legend 10 years from now. If anything, I am sick of scrub teams like Minnesota, NO, Memphis, etc... diluting the league. Instead of watching perfect basketball by 10 top players, we have to endure the garbage play of guys like Bogan and crap.
