Yikes.... looks like a poo-poo platter to me. Those guys will not be enough to nab Williams or Paul (unless Fields makes a significant leap, which is unlikely).

And the Knicks would not be able to trade a pick until 2016.

Not on talent alone, of course not. But if Melo has already successfully strong-armed his way to the Knicks as his team of choice, and if DWill and/or CP3 also tell their teams that they won't re-sign with anyone but the Knicks, then Utah and NOH will be forced in the same game of chicken that Denver has had to play. One big expiring contract of a guy who can still play, plus assorted young talent (Fields is pretty good, Douglas and Walker are decent)-- or draft picks, if the Knicks can trade the preceding to other teams for picks-- might be all they can get.

Williams and Paul might be out of luck if a franchise tag is put in new CBA (which sadly will happen IMO)

Sorry for offtopic guys, but one question. What is the deal with some guys over on the Knicks board typing their nick at the end of every post? :)

And they still would only be able to pay one of those two guys 30 million less than max.

If Denver has a follow up deal with Hou (as has been reported) they are going to dump Harringtons salary and Nene in return for Yao's contract, Chase B, and a first.

Huge roster overhaul, huge cap savings, and huge cap room next season and after.

Does Houston really need Nene at the expense of taking Harrington?

The Knicks are not giving up much in this deal. I won't lie -- a little jealous. When we went after guys such as Gasol, etc, we gave up better packages IMO, and what we offered was never enough. Still don't get why Melo is set on NYK. I'm assuming it's the wife and the fact that he'll prolly be more the 'face' of the franchise than Amare. If he truly wanted to 'win' -- Chicago is the spot to demand a trade to.

I'm still hoping no deal gets done or he's sent to NJ.

Felton, Gallinari, Chandler and a first rounder(s) is hardly "not much" for a guy who supposedly would sign with the Knicks in 4 months. New Jersey drove the price up and made the Knicks offer fair value.

Their in contention and he gets to go back home....

I don't think it's about being the face because if it were, he would of tried to get to NY way before now..

They need to give up Felton, Gallo, and Chandler anyway to have cap space in 2012.

The Knicks will be scary good with Billups/Fields/Melo/Amare.

But the Knicks won't have nearly as much leverage as they do in the Melo situation because they won't be able to sign Paul or Williams outright in the summer unless one of those guys takes a huge pay cut. If this is the going rate for Melo given the current circumstances, I can't imagine the Knicks getting Paul or Williams for less in 2012.

Denver did a fine job. Just look at the team they'll have

G-Felton/Lawson
G-Afflalo/Brewer
F-Chandler/Galinari
F
C

The only holes are C and PF but they'll have money to add to that and could start Galinari at PF which they probably will and could be getting Chase B in the Nene deal plus a pick and they'll get picks for JR too. With George Karl as coach, it's a nice set of players for him.

They would have to use some of that money to re-sign Chandler, unless they just plan on him walking.

I dunno if Melo is better than Amare or not. I don't think he'd be the clear cut best player at any rate.

Gallinari could probably start at PF for them, I agree. It isn't really ideal but I'd do it for sure.

You can't be traded somewhere if the two teams can't agree on pieces to trade.

They'll have easily the worst defensive frontcourt in the NBA. I'm not worried and I doubt the Bulls are.

If this happens, that team will not be good. They will finish the season right around .500 and probably get passed by Philly and maybe even Indy or Charlotte. I see them getting bounced in the first round regardless. They will be a weak rebounding team and an atrocious defensive team.

That is not true. All they need to give up is Chandler.
