Does Rodgers remind you of anyone?

To some of the older fans here, (or if you know older fans and you have asked them) does Rodgers remind you of any past QB?

I feel he's totally different to anyone we've seen in the NFL before. He has incredible smarts, arm strength, mobility, and toughness.

I guess Elway fits that mold, although wasn't Elway more of a runner than Rodgers?

One of the things Elway got credit for was making others around him better, and I guess we have yet to see that with Rodgers.

Are you saying we haven't seen him get credit for making others better or that he actually hasn't made others around him better? It was kind of an oddly worded sentence and I'm curious what you meant by it.

We're comparing him to Young and Elway, yet if I were honest I'd say he's got the potential to be better than either when all is said and done. Maybe he's already a better QB.

This is a sport where longevity and rings mean everything. Dan Marino was unreal and maybe the most talented QB I ever watched. But he takes a back-seat because he didn't win a Super Bowl. I think it's crap, but it is what it is. But now Aaron has a ring. So you can put his numbers up there against the all-time greats and point to the fact that he won a title.

I'm gonna hold off on saying where he ranks, both now and all-time. But if the Packers can make a run like the 90s Cowboys, you're going to have a tough time keeping Rodgers out of the top spot for best ever.

(God that read awful in re-reading it. You guys know what I mean, right? Ridiculous career numbers both in the regular and post-season, he's got a ring, he's still young and his team is talented. With a couple more seasons he has to be in the conversation, right?)

Oops, good point. That Rodgers has had good to great receivers his time here. (Not knocking Rodgers, just saying).

You'd think he'd have to be in any earnest GOAT conversation if he got a couple more rings and keeps playing like this -- pretty much anybody who plays at a sustained high level and wins multiple championships gets talked about that way at some point. There are going to be people, of course, who are too invested to ever be willing to detract from the legacy of whomever-they-think-is-the-rightful-GOAT (Unitas, Montana, whoever), and there are also going to be people who will start trying to add him to the conversation pretty much right now.

He seriously doesn't remind me of one single qb. He's a mold of a bunch.

-Preperation and smarts of Peyton Manning
-Arm Strength of John Elway (not quite as strong because Elway's arm strength was legendary)
-Quick release of Dan Marino
-Mobility of Steve Young

I'll go for the old school obvious: Bart Starr....

Efficiency & accuracy over gunslinging approach.

Quiet intensity vs. rah-rah leadership. Jennings made that point a couple of times this season.

Football IQ

Modest size for the position (at that point in time), but a pretty good athlete - better than originally thought.

I personally think Rodgers is a gunslinger, but one of the smartest gunslingers the game has ever seen. He takes tons of shots in games. Hes just smart and accurate enough to make a high percentage of them. Look at the two passes in the superbowl to jennings. Those were some dangerous passes. But hes good enough to put it right where it needs to be.

I wound't say he takes tons of shots in games. His percentage of passes to guys that aren't single covered has to be near the lowest in the league.

The pass to Jennings on 3rd down in particular wasn't really that dangerous since the help was so far away. He basically just had to get it over the LB. The TD was closer, but that was only close to being tipped. The safety really had no chance of making a play on the ball. Unless it gets tipped in the air (not likely given how hard and high he threw it), it is incomplete or a reception. I'm not saying those are easy passes, but when you have the arm of Rodgers, those types of passes are open.

The most remarkable thing about Rodgers to me is that he doesn't really take shots. He's just great at pre-snap and post-snap reads and knows how to find single coverage and deliver. We have possibly the best big play QB in the league (considering that he seems to always look deep first), who happens to also be one of the safest when it comes to taking chances by throwing into coverage. It is an amazing combination.

He's got Montanna's cool but plays a lot like Young, but I don't think it's fair to compare him to older QBs the game has changed so much. After seeing some of the passes he threw in the SB, it's crazy how good this guy could become. I already think he's surpassed some QBs in his generation though, there is no one in the NFL that i'd take over him right now Manning, Brady, and Rivers included.
