He is young so he could probably amend his problems...but the same could be said of Blatche...cause at last Blatche plays decent man-D as of late. If they'd do it straight up, i'd consider it. I don't like G any more than that though.

2011 Boston 1st - 30th - 27th overall pick
Washington
Kirk Hinrich
Josh Howard

Boston would get two players that would fit right on to there style of play.
this could help them make there run at a title this year and next much more easier :D

For Us this trade would just break Kirks contract about in Half with Oneals and Nate contracts
It would snag us Two young assets with Avery and Bostons pick to use in future trades
Oneal could prove to be a good player/coach for Blatche n McGee

It actually ends up costing us money next year. Hinrich is better than Nate, and O'Neal looks like he's done. And we end up with 2 PG's to play behind Wall, none of whom can defend the SG position. It's tough to justify all that for the 27th pick in a weak draft. I'd have to be more convinced that Avery Bradley has potential. So far, he can't crack the rotation, even in garbage time.

I think a scaled down version of this makes more sense:

Washington trades: J.Howard
Boston trades: M.Daniels + Von Wafer + BOS 2012 1st*

*I'm going for the 2012 pick because it's a stronger draft and age might catch up with Boston by then.

After next season, ya gotta pay him to keep him, and somebody's going to over-pay for a shooter.

Agreed.

I like Chandler better. I wouldn't mind working out a S&T this summer where they sign Chandler to a Blatche-sized contract and then trade him for Blatche. It would work out nicely if we end up drafting a PF like Kanter. We'd have Chandler, Lewis, Booker and Kanter to man the forward spots. All of them are hard-working and scrappy (well, except for Lewis whom I'd characterize as more cerebral on D, though not particularly fiesty).

Apparently Boston is interested in Josh Howard, Anthony Parker, and Roger Mason. I'd trade Howard for Bradley and a 2nd round pick. It doesn't work in the trade checker, they would probably have to add a guy like Von Wafer or something.

Bradley could be a long term solution as a backup PG.

I'd do that, but I'd be like it better if we traded Howard for filler plus their 2012 1st rounder. That draft is likely to be deep and age is likely to catch up with Boston by then, making the pick higher.

Nate, are you factoring in Young's potential contract in your calculations?

Yes, but there are some assumptions.

I assume that Nick gets $5M a year with a deal structured to minimize his 2012 cap hit (so it's $5M, $4.4M, $5M and $5.6M over the next 4 years respectively).

I assume that we draft the #7 pick this year and the #18 pick next year (but honestly, the difference between the #18 pick and, say, the #12 pick is negligible).

I assume Rashard Lewis is bought out for $10M.

Under those assumptions, if Blatche is also traded for a 2012 expiring, we'd have a payroll of just $35.5M, counting McGee's cap hold. Even if you assume Lewis cost more to buy out, we should have max cap room available. And if we sent out McGee as part of a S&T, or renounced him, we'd save another $7.4M.

He missed the first two months while recovering from an ACL injury. He came back for a while but his minutes were limited to 25 a game. He looked good for 6 games, but then the knee started swelling up again so they shut him down for five more weeks to make sure everything healed properly. He came back two games prior to the All Star Break and looked good again.

Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine. I don't know if that last 5-weeks of rest did the trick or not.

Sounds like he would fit right in with the Celtics.

Thanks for the info.

Meh, Bradley has limited ball-handling skills. Quick as all get out but watching him at Texas it was obvious he was an undersized SG. Potentially a very good defender and a good shooter but limited otherwise. Maybe he can play w/ Wall, maybe not but he doesn't excite me as a prospect.

Honestly I don't see much value in trading, acquiring or drafting prospects with the hope that they develop into backups. Which is probably why I'm not that high on Seraphin. Spending 3/4 years developing a backup big doesn't seem like an ideal allocation of resources, especially considering by the time he's ready to contribute his rookie contract will be up.

If a guy is ready to play and contribute off the bench, that's a different story.

Boston's prolly thinking the same thing regarding their draft picks. Ainge probably won't give it up so easily.

Azubuike/Turiaf for Hinrich type deal?
Gets the ball rolling of contracts coming off the books and I actually think Turiaf would help McGee more than Hinrich for Wall.

Our cap situation is messed up to be honest. Looking at the salary on Sham Sports. We've got $46 million tied up next year, not including Young's extension or our lottery pick. Hinrich could be dealt but it'd be negated by Young and the 1st year contract of the rookie anyway.

Lewis won't be valuable until February 2012...ugh.

Yeah, but Boston needs to add a swing man if they seriously want to win the championship. There aren't any better veteran swing men available than Howard.

Needless to say I know what it's like for those contracts to be on there for a long time, but I think it starts from small moves. I think it also goes without being said that the Wizards need to ask themselves what type of team they want to be now and in the future. I think this actually applies to Blatche the most.

Lewis' contract could be a real thorn in the side come 2012. Lewis is due somewhere between $10M and $17M in 2012. EG needs to put together a plan to get rid of that 2012 money, even if it costs us more right now.

One option would be to buy Lewis our right now. Lewis is owed $21.1M this year and let's call it $17M next year for argument's sake. That's $38M overall. If Lewis is bought out, he could probably go make $6M a year elsewhere. So we need to make up the other $26M in the buyout. Maybe Lewis leaves a little money on the table just to get a chance to play with a winner elsewhere. So let's assume $22M is the buyout fee. We can buy him out and have the buyout fee prorated against our cap these next two years at roughly $12M next year and $10M in 2012.

Another option would be to trade Lewis for worse contracts that expire in 2012. The best suitor is Charlotte. Trade Lewis + $3M cash for Diop + Diaw + Najera. It's salary neutral in 2011 and gets Lewis' cap figure down to $7.3M in 2012. The question is, do they consider the upgrade from Diaw to Lewis to be worth it. Is it even an upgrade?

Meh, the more I think about it, the more it's apparent that a buyout is the only feasible scenario.

You know what the 2013 salary is? I know it's not fully guaranteed but never knew the exact number.

Nobody has published this information. At a minimum it's at least $10M. At a maximum, it's around $17M. Nobody knows exactly what incentives Lewis must meet to get to the $17M figure. In 2008, one reporter's source said that if Lewis remained healthy, that the $17M figure was a foregone conclusion. But back in 2008, Lewis was putting up much better numbers.

Yeah then I agree with your approach in regards to trying to trade him for smaller contracts and if that fails pursue the buy out option. I just can't see any team in the league unless Isiah comes back that would be willing to make that trade. I mean guys like Drew Gooden and Corey Maggette come to mind but that sort of defeats the purpose IMO.

Not sure I'd do that since Turiaf would presumably take minutes from Seraphin.

Any interest in Blatche? The Knicks are sorely in need of frontcourt help IMO. Blatche to NY for expirings+pick? I read that they sent their 2014 pick to DEN, so presumably we could target their 2012 pick. If D'Antoni can get Blatche to play with some discipline, his passing/shooting could make him a rich man's version of what Diaw was in PHX the year Amare was hurt.
