Re: Official Trade Thread XV
While it's true we need big man depth, I hope we don't trade for someone like Blatche. While on paper he actually seems like a good match, with his on court demeanor and contract I would think that would scare Walsh off. However Isiah is back, I cue the Blatche to NY rumors starting around June.

I would do that proposed Hinrich deal. But who would be the Knicks' starting center?

No doubt in my mind that he will start Amar'e there barring another trade.

I've got mixed feelings about the trade...it does provide some short term cap help...but I was hoping to land someone of...use to us in such a trade. Turiaf is an ok backup (reminds me of etan thomas) but he is kinda redundant. We have Seraphin as previously mentioned, who I still think has extremely high potential and would rather see him getting the bulk of the back up minutes. That being said, Turiaf seems to be a guy with his head on straight and could serve as a decent mentor to Seraphin, in the aspect of teaching him how to bang down low. I'd flip a coin on this one, which is good thing, considering other offers i've seen lol.

We've got $46 million tied up next year, not including Young's extension or our lottery pick. Hinrich could be dealt but it'd be negated by Young and the 1st year contract of the rookie anyway.
Lewis won't be valuable until February 2012...ugh.
Lewis' contract could be a real thorn in the side come 2012. Lewis is due somewhere between $10M and $17M in 2012. EG needs to put together a plan to get rid of that 2012 money, even if it costs us more right now.
All true, yet still less of a mess than if we still had Gil's contract. Of course, we also don't know exactly how bad of a mess until the CBA gets worked out. Maybe this is the equivalent of being stabbed to death vs. dying in a nuclear explosion.

Re Rashard Lewis' Contract:
For those of you who want out of it, we may have the Allan Houston Rule part two with the new CBA. I think I remember reading that it might happen again so there's some hope to get out of it using that.
Toronto just used Miami's pick to trade for James Johnson who I always was a fan of. Wish we could of grabbed him but good for the Raptors. That's the "type" of player I say we go after, ones that have been buried on the bench and haven't been given a chance. Gerald Henderson was another one but since the firing of Larry Brown, he's been ballin.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
Wizards trade: Blatche+Hinrich
Wizards receive: Brand, PHI first, GSW future first, and $6M cash
Warriors trade: Biedrins, future first, and $3M
Warriors receive: Hinrich
Sixers trade: Brand, first, and $3M
Sixers receive: Biedrins and Blatche
TRADE ID 5860112
We get a physical big to play next to McGee, two firsts, and enough cash to offset the additional short-term salary gain (keep in mind that we do help our long-term cap). GSW cuts longterm salary and upgrades at backup PG. Philly completely remodels their frontcourt to try to take the next step.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
Why do the Warriors trade a young center, a future first, and $3M for a combo guard to back up their two biggest minutes players and take a long term salary hit in the process (I assume from your post -- too lazy to look it up)?

You realize the Allan Houston rule had absolutely zero effect on the team's Cap right? At best it could save our owner some Luxury Tax money if we were in that territory but it won't help our cap situation at all to Allan Houston Exception him.

I was under the impression that Biedrins was out of their longterm plans, so I figured they'd appreciate us facilitating the movement of his contract.

Hawks shopping Bibby, eye Hinrich
The Atlanta Hawks are working hard to move point guard Mike Bibby(notes), and
Washington’s Kirk Hinrich(notes) has emerged as a real target for them.
Denver’s Raymond Felton(notes) and Portland’s Andre Miller
(notes) also are looming
large on the Hawks’ radar, sources say. The Hawks have inquired about the Nets’ Harris, but there are no deal possibilities there, sources said.
The Hawks are trying hard to rid themselves of the three years and $23.2 million left on Marvin Williams’(notes) contract after this season. “For what he
makes, it’s a tough sell,” said one NBA coach whose team desires a forward who can score the ball.
The Hawks also have explored trying to trade guard Jeff Teague(notes) and
swingman Maurice Evans(notes) to the Cleveland Cavaliers for guards
Ramon Sessions(notes) and Manny Harris
(notes), one source said.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
Interesting. Bibby+Marvin+Teague+first for Hinrich+Blatche? Doesn't really help their cap but they'll probably get more production out of Blatche.

If we bring in Marvin Williams while retaining Ra$hart Lewis and Josh Howard.. ugh..
Sounds VERY much like a Ernie Grunfeld type move. You have a soft jump shooting tweener forward? Send him our WAY!! Ernie is ALWAYS buying!

For some reason when I posted this I was thinking the exact opposite. I know you're correct but I wasn't thinking when I posted.

Yep. I think he's heavily involved in trade discussions and management doesn't want to risk anything.
I really wouldn't mind acquiring Bibby for Hinrich (with incentive from Atlanta of course). He ran an offense on (what should of been) a champion team in Sacramento. He's a winner, a gamer, and a leader. I think he's a better mentor to Wall than Hinrich for sure.

My assumption is that Bibby would be waived since there's no reason to have him take minutes from Wall. My guess is he'd end up in Miami.

Not even in a mentor role? Bibby's contract has this year and a following year. I could definitely see us buying him out next deadline if no buyers come out but not now. He still has value and I think he could help mentor Wall who's playing on pure skill and not ability.
If he does get waived, I agree that Miami is the likely destination.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
^ Hmmm...for some reason I was thinking that the last year of Bibby's deal wasn't fully guaranteed. I just checked and looks like that's not so. In that case, I wouldn't waive him.
But I still don't see him accepting a reserve role. If we're going to overpay for a backup PG next season I'd just as soon keep Hinrich.

More on the ATL/Hinny "Interest"
http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/02/2 ... ef:nbahpt2
Sounds-like ATL trying to shed salary while staying competitive. I don't think he's the best fit for them.
The Atlanta Hawks are interested in Washington Wizards veteran point guard Kirk Hinrich, according to league sources, but the Hawks are not willing to give Washington both a young player and a first-round pick for Hinrich, the Wizards’ current asking price.
Atlanta is trying to convince Washington take back veteran Mike Bibby for Hinrich, pointing out the potential cap savings for the Wizards. Hinrich is scheduled to make $8 million next season, while Bibby only will make $6.2 million. Both would be entering the final year of their respective contracts next season. The Wizards, though, want to continue their youth movement–though Washington isn’t interested in taking on the two years and $15.7 million that will be left on swingman Marvin Williams‘s contract after this season.
The Hawks are reluctant to put a first-round pick in the deal, especially considering the Wizards already got a first from Chicago last year when the Bulls traded Hinrich to Washington to clear salary cap space. The Wizards used that pick to select French big man Kevin Seraphin, who has played sporadically this season for Flip Saunders.

I'm confused by the Hawks speculation. Are we asking for Bibby, a young player, and a first...or just Bibby and a first?
Why would we take Bibby str8 up for Hinrich if thats the offer?
