ESPN: Marc Stein Reporting Landry for Thornton + Anderson

Post#1 » by boogydown » Wed Feb 23, 2011 3:25 am

STEIN_LINE_HQ Marc Stein
Sacramento and New Orleans closing in on deal that would send Carl Landry to Hornets for Marcus Thornton and David Andersen

Deal scheduled to be finalized tomorrow but discussions as of tonight had Landry -- held out of SAC's game at MIA -- for Thornton/Andersen

I'm more than happy with that.

I like it for the simple fact that the Kings will most likely let Landry walk after his contract expired at the end of the season.

Thornton is a FA as well as Anderson. If the deal goes through (Indy is making a final push) by tomorrow this is just giving Landry a chance to play for a contender. Classy move by Petrie. He highly respects Landry

I think we're undervaluing the return of Thornton. Sad that he's a bit to short for a SF and doesn't have the handles for a PG, but he's a decent outside shot, a capable defender and very athletic. He and Tyreke will fit well together and he provides stability in Tyreke's absense. Good young guy.

He's not really a great fit with Tyreke as a permanent solution. Tyreke still needs to play with a real floor general, which Thornton is not in any way, shape, or form.

But for the time being, it'll just be nice to have somebody else that can spread the floor.

When Thornton started at the shooting guard last season as a rookie, he put up big numbers. Something like: 20/4/3 45% FG + ~35% 3PT.

From what I heard, he isn't a good defender. In matter in fact, he is a poor defender. Which is surprising given his athletic and physical abilities.

He is a talented scorer for sure. He can be dangerous about anywhere in the floor. I would like to think that Thornton will get significant minutes (or even START!) due to the absence of Tyreke ( for ~3 wks).

Solid move for both teams. Landry gets to go to a team contending for the playoffs, and you guys get some value back for him. Thorton is a solid offensive talent, but defense is NOT one of his strengths, which is why he has not played as much this year under Monty Williams,

Thornton is garbage to me. This move like I said is just for Landry to play for a playoff team. I'm hearing we got a pick in the deal as compensation.

Not what I was thinking of out of Landry. I agree with perez.

lol he isn't garbage. He had several 30+ point games as a rookie! He shown he can score at this level. Which the Kings needed desperately. He is guy that can help spread the floor for us. Other than Tyreke, Cousins and maybe Beno, he is the Kings best offensive player by default.

Lol KF10, this deal reminds me of the Rashard McCants, Orieon Greene type trades. We'll role the dice on Thornton to see if he maybe can have a future here. If he looks like how he's been look ever since that LAST game in his rookie season where he was all smoke and mirrors to begin with -- he'll be out of here just like Landry. Point blank, Marcus is trash -- this deal is NOTHING more than gum on a side walk; Its just there!

Rashad McCants is potentially a valid comparison. That would be the downside. The upside would be a very effective scorer that can spread the floor.

I think you are underrating Thornton here. The dude can score when given minutes.
