How much better would we be...

Post#1 » by geeman » Wed Feb 23, 2011 1:04 am

I know we need a big and a PG and we want to make the sexy move, but how much better would we be with R Sessions and Hasheem Thabeet? These are moves we could do without going into the LT.

Marginally. We would be marginally better with them added.

I like Thabeet, but he's years away from consistently contributing. Sessions has his moments, but I still trust Bibby on offense more than I would Sessions.

I think Sessions would improve our offense by leaps and bounds. The problem isn't really Bibby, it's that we run our half court offense more through Joe, Jamal, and Josh. None of them penetrate that well, especially from where they start on the floor with the ball. We don't even have an effective pick and roll to fall back on. As a team we settle for jump shots. Even when we move the ball it seems that we settle for a jump shot. The alternative to jump shots is a back door cut play that often gets deflected. We need a PG to make the defense work and get some easier shots for the rest of the team. And by easier shots I mean some at the rim and if it must be a jump shot being one after the defense reacts which might increase rebounding opportunities. Bibby knows how to run an offense but no longer has the moves to get break down a defense. Sessions isn't the only PG we could get that could serve this purpose. Aaron Brooks, Andre Miller, Devin Harris, and Jose Calderon all fit the bill. Ramon Sessions might be the least expensive to acquire in terms of players surrendered though. What I do know is that if we don't acquire someone that we're essentially writing off this season because we've gotten enough evidence that as constituted we are just too flawed.

Thabeet does nothing for me. He's tall yes, but from everything I've heard he's too lazy in his pursuit of basketball to even be serviceable. I'd rather find a D League player who's willing to fight to stay in the league.

By the way, I hope we acquire a leader at PG because our other players are too talented and athletic to settle for jump shots all the time. They need someone to set the tone and LEAD!!!
