All I've seen is that both picks are first rounders.

Hey, I'm still waiting for us to dump Blatche. Unless that happens in the next couple hours, that grade drops to a C.

I think we also have to take some time to digest what these other moves mean for the East and how it should affect the Wiz going forward. I'm not going to penalize Ernie for not responding to something that happened only 20 minutes ago.

Re: Deron to NJ - Do we know which picks got sent to Utah? Were the NJ's own picks, or the ones owed to them by DAL/GSW?

I believe they got Jersey's own pick this year, and GSW's pick this year as well. Utah could end up with 3 lottery picks in 2011.

We need to be more proactive...we should have been ever since Lebron and Bosh went to Miami. Now all the dominoes are starting to fall, Melo to Knicks, Williams to Jersey. Bottom feeder teams are getting better. Pacers/Bobcats all made changes and are getting better.

Honestly, at this point, I would consider trading McGee. We really need a 1-2 punch in DC to have any chance now. At anything.

Isn't that the plan; to build through the draft? Of course we are susceptible of EG making a dumb pick but the plan all along was to acquire young guys that can play together for 10-15 years. There's a big difference building through star caliber guys like Wall than mid first rounders and later picks like McGee, Young, Booker, Seraphin, and Blatche.

How long are we going to build through the draft. We're just going to get younger and more inexperienced.

Wow. Let's give up on the plan after half a season! Nice patience.

There is nothing exciting about this team right now. We have John Wall and a bunch of garbage around him. The coaching staff looks bored and uninterested. The players could care less. Guys like Yi are playing over the supposed "Building blocks" of this franchise. Besides Nick Young, we have seen no progression from any of the role players.

Ted will really be testing the patience of his tiny fan base if this team sucks again next year while the rest of the East gets better. Can we just get rid of Blatche at least? He's single handedly made this team hard to watch this year. Bench him, trade him, cut him, I don't care. I can't stand to watch this loser take the court every night and then give that stupid look every time he does something moronic.

Getting back to the thread... Right now, NJ's getting a lot of love for making this trade, but uh... I think Utah is going to be the team smelling like a rose from it. NJ's got no guarantee Williams doesn't leave after a year and a fraction - and they just gave up 3 major assets for him - Favors, their 1st round pick (unprotected as far as I can tell), and GS's pick next year (just top 7 protected). If they don't re-sign Williams, put a fork in the franchise for a long time. If they do re-sign him, I'm not sure it's a lock they have the cap space to get another max player in 2012.

I thought the Utah board was going to be losing their minds on this one but they actually are fairly level-headed about it. They figured they'd lose Deron for nothing in free agency anyway and were especially not happy about the Sloan situation.

I still think they should have gotten more for Williams. I wonder how many teams were aware of him being shopped. Plus, the centerpiece of this trade for Utah is Favors, but he plays the same position as Jefferson and Millsap.

Hmm, I wonder what it would take to pry Millsap away from Utah at this stage? He's still fairly young and provides a significant upgrade over anything that we currently have in our frontcourt.

NBA Trade Rumors: Andray Blatche is reportedly off the trade block

And, if any players get moved, it will unlikely be members of the young core -- John Wall, Nick Young, JaVale McGee, Andray Blatche, Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin. While two Western Conference executives said in late December that the Wizards were open to moving Blatche, the Wizards have informed others in recent weeks that they intend to keep him.

You know, I remember a time when Andray Blatche and Brendan Haywood on the floor together was a devastating defensive combination. But Andray Blatche with McGee is an unmitigated disaster. So I'm afraid I'm going to have to put more of the blame on McGee than Blatche. I do think Blatche still dawdles getting back on d in transition and that bit them more than once last night.

Every team in the East is loading up on one to 3 superstars. Bulls have Rose-Noah-Boozer, the Miami Thrice, look at Orlando and how deep they are. Boston. We have Wall and nothing. McGee is never going to turn into a major player, no matter how much freedom he has. He will never get it. Blatche, it was a mistake now giving him that contract when he should have played out his current one.

I hope Grunfled is bluffing, because if they can anything remotely decent for Blatche, they need to trade him. They're not going anywhere if that guy is a core player.

Geez...I'm losing more and more faith in Grunfeld as the days pass. So ineffective these past few years.

I think Uncle Groupon is banking on making significant changes to the CBA and entire system of the NBA. He'll be in for a rude awakening as I can pretty much guarantee he was the "New Owner" who got into it with LeBron over All Star Weekend negotiations. It seems Ted is content to sit on his ass and hope to change the rules rather than actually build a good team here.

EG is a joke and this franchise is a joke as long as we keep him around. The man has built Soft team after Soft team and it will never change. He overpays scrubs and has never built a winner. Every year nearly every team in the league is active around the deadline and somehow this prick keeps his job by sitting on his hands and not doing a thing. He gives us the same BS spiel about how good our roster is and how unfortunate we've been with injuries, etc. as to why his team is terrible. I'm so sick of it. The entire roster has been blown up and we've gotten ZERO in return for the supposed "talent" we had here. Guess what? We still suck.

Also, HOW THE F IS ANDRAY BLATCHE "off the trading block"?!?! Are you kidding me? Ted and Ernie really believe this guy is our future @ PF? I can't wait to see what Blatche looks like at 30 years old. Ughhhh.

NJ gave up too much in this deal. Deron is almost a franchise player but he's not going to be able to lift that team without some additional pieces.

I don't think the Jazz could have made a better trade under their circumstances.

Truthfully, Michael Lee tweeted that Blatche isn't off the block.

It's probably just GM speak.

Woo hoo! The Nets are no longer a competitor for ping pong balls! Top 5 pick, here we come!!

[Sorry, had to look for the silver lining here....]

Actually, I do like this deal a lot for Utah. Not sure they would have definitely lost Deron, as the current CBA really favors (no pun intended) the incumbent team. But to get the package they did was very good given the circumstance. Any bets on who they'll take with their picks? Kanter and Vesely? Singler? Jon Leuer? Chandler Parsons? The possibilities are endless....

Uh, how did I miss Jimmer?!?! This entire deal is about getting an extra pick for Fredette, it's so obvious!!!!

Good call, Sev. Jimmer in Utah would be a natural.

Btw, if this trade were done a few weeks ago, Jerry Sloan ya gotsta figure would still be there. I'm guessing Utah was totally surprised that NJ was willing to give that much up for Deron.

All kidding aside, if they could end up with Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Kanter (Nets Pick), Fredette (their own pick), and a likely lottery pick in '11 or '12 - that would go a long way toward easing the pain of losing Deron.... (and the cash wouldn't hurt either)
