Our cap situation and future moves

Post#1 » by Rockice_8 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 7:34 pm

Ok lets talk about the fallout from one of the best days in recent memory for us Nets fans.

2011-12 Salary. The cap is at $58 mil for next year and this is what we have on the books. I rounded the numbers trying to account for small raises and just to make it easy.

$18 D-will
$7 Outlaw
$4 Morrow
$4 Farmar
$3.5 Petro
$3.5 Lopez (I think)
$2 D. James

Total = $42 mil give or take a little with the cap at $58 we have approximately $16 mill to spend. Now that doesn't mean go out and sign everything the walks (Outlaw/Petro) but we could use a top notch SF. Two names that come to mind are Jeff Green and Wilson Chandler. With the new CBA looming I think we might be able to land one of these guys on a decent contract. $8-$9 mil per (hopefully) that would leave us with say $7-$8 mil give some to resign Hump and go from there.

Now I think we are trying to still package Murphy to another team and land another good player i.e. Iggy/G. Wallace so we might not be in need of a SF. Really I would like to land Green/Chandler for a reasonable deal and go from there. I however wouldn't mind Iggy I like his all around game and finishing on the break a la Kidd to Jefferson.

we have many options to explore and money and picks to do it. I'll leave the Draft thread to talk about what we are looking for with the LAL pick should we still have it.

^He was, don't forget to include their contracts as well. (Not Wright, since he's an expiring)

Also, I think next year we need to keep our cap space and wait for either any trades we can do during the season, or for 2012. Personally, I wouldn't mind a SG so that we can have Morrow coming off the bench.

I thought the GS portion wasn't completed yet I thought they were trying to find somewhere else to ship Murphy in an attempt to land some better talent. Anyway both GS players are expiring so no big deal.

Yup, if they weren't why even make the trade?

Can someone confirm whether or not the Murphy part of the deal was completed yet?

Both deals with Utah and GSW work separately so it didn't need to be a 3 team deal since no GSW player was heading to Utah. I just want confirmation the GSW deal isn't finalized.

If that is the case, just curious who do people think our targets would be?

I'm still surprised we haven't looked hard for a starting SG. I'm fine with the Murphy to GSW deal, but if we could land a starting SG instead, I'd be a much happier. I'm not going to get to far ahead of myself until we see everything official though.

I really can't find anywhere that says Murphy to GS is done. I the last thing I saw is that Avery said the Nets weren't done and are trying to land another good player, which makes me think that the second trade with GS isn't done.

I know Philly has been playing well but something like Murphy/James/HOU 1st. for Iggy

An A-Will, Iggy, Dwight (S&T with Lopez) would be a solid squad with Morrow and whoever.

I just realized we will have a bunch of capspace but the CBA runs out the day before FA begins so who knows.

You know we can always just absorb him next year so lets just wait. We can get more in the offseason.

Don't sign anyone this summer. Save the cap space and wait to see if Howard becomes available at the deadline.

Unless there's a dissagreement with Deron, I fully expect Kirilenko being a target this summer. He'ld fit with Williams and Prok.

For a 1 year deal I'd do it. I can't justify giving him multiple years with Dwight out there. We need all the cap space we can get.

Looks like Murphy to GS is done since both Gadz and Wright were out of practice.

How long is Wright out for. I think he's hurt but I want to see what he can do.

Sitting back and waiting to nab a big free agent in 2012 would be hard because of Brook Lopez's restricted free agent status putting a big hold on the cap space. I dont care though, I'll still dream of bringing in Dwight Howard to pair with Deron Williams and taking over Brooklyn.

The only player that I would look to spend money on would be Afflalo. As a young Raja Bell clone, I think he'd be a great player next to D-Will and compliment Morrow in the sg rotation. Even still, I'm not spending big enough money that it would take to have the Nugets not match it. Keep the cap space and use it to facilitate a trade at the deadline if at all possible.
