Because there was never a "me or him" ultimatum from either Williams or Sloan, despite all the speculation to the contrary.

You guys seriously think Sloan would want to coach another rebuilding team? He would have been gone this summer anyway. Too bad he didn't get a better retirement party, but it was inevitable and HP is right, there was no ultimatum.
