I'd love a Monta deal, don't really think he's available for what the Timberwolves would be offering. I think they have pie in the sky dreams of dealing Ellis for a bigger fish. I do think he could be available whenever the next offseason happens, after those dreams come back to earth.
Like you said, Curry wouldn't be necessary for a Mayo deal (another I'd like to happen, unfortunately I think the price would be something like Wes + 1st).
I think the most realistic option for an upgrade at SG is probably someone like JR Smith. Maybe Courtney Lee for helping Houston get underneath the luxury tax (something along the lines of Webster for Jeffries/Lee would be ideal)?
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

I don't see Golden State wanting to trade their franchise player into smaller parts. The direction of their team suggests they would rather trade for another star player to add to Ellis. So I don't think Ellis is getting shopped at all.

He had a lot of other injuries though and in high school had a hip operation that shortened one of his legs, or something like that. So combine a limp with being a huge body in the NBA and he's pretty much physically screwed for his entire career.
Although I remember reading that a lot of different people thought the problem was that he bulked up too quickly and his body couldn't take the extra strain. Not sure if you can fix that, but if you can I suppose he's worth a look.

I've read that Curry is the "franchise" player (neither of them are, but...), and that Ellis is the half of the GS backcourt that is available.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Really? I could have sworn it was the opposite. I remember I was shocked when I saw it.

The owner called Ellis "our core, franchise player," and agreed that Curry has not played to the standards of last season.

I'm searching for where I read it. I'm fairly sure it was on ESPN, so take that for what it is. I remember it made sense to me though, based on cost and other factors.
Although, even that article you posted mentions that even with Ellis being the "franchise" player, it doesn't mean that he wouldn't be traded.

Right you are. That is why I said I was shocked when I saw the gm calling Ellis a franchise player. You'd think Curry would be alot easier to build around than Ellis.

Wasn't that the owner talking?

Yeah my mistake. I originally thought it was the gm that said it when I looked for the quote so I typed gm without thinking.
