Like many of us Bulls fans I also wouldn't give up Asik this deadline. This is Omer's first year playing ball in the NBA and he's done alright better than many had hoped for. Give him an off-season to see what he'll do with his game. I think He'll come back better next year and will be worth more than just a Courtnety Lee.

Awesome. I bet he tortures high-level scouts and threatens to dump them in a pool of man-eating pirahnas until they talk.

What makes Afflalo si good is his defense and high efficiency shooting. He isn't a playmaker, he makes up for that with those 2 strong suites. Lee is not as strong in those areas and also lacking playmaker skills therefore much less valuable. I am not willing to see the Bulls give up a big to give a much traded SG a chance to prove he is Afflalo. I rather wait until the offseason and get the real Afflalo using our assets, or something better.

Bingo. The funny part is I remember reading on the Rockets board about how he wasn't very good yet we are expecting him to be our savior. I want him to upgrade bogans but not at the cost of asik.

I agree about his defense being spectacular, but have a hard time seeing him developing an offensive game considering he's made like 3 non dunk/layups all season. He's also gonna be 25 going into next year, so its not like he's a 20 year old with room to fill out. He's in his physical prime already, and will improve with further adjustment to the american game and some coaching, but he's not going to improve enough to be a solid starter IMO.

While I respect Omer, and accept that I could be wrong in my evaluation of him, I think it makes more sense to trade him since he's the in demand trade chip. If you don't want to trade him or Taj, you have nothing but draft picks to offer as pieces in a trade (other than salary fillers).

I appreciate the reply though.

Omer's age is irrelevant here. He started playing at a late age, so it's not like he doesn't have any room grow. He's still a raw rookie, that can be developed. I've followed him for almost as long as Magilla, so I see more growth in him than most. And I never said I wouldn't trade Taj. If we can get Lee by trading him, I have absolutely no problem with letting him go.

Point taken, but I do think age has some relevancy. He needs to obviously bulk up a bit to really become a force, but he doesn't have the advantage of counting on filling out like a player who is 20 can count on. So I belive he's always gonna be undersized in terms of bulk. That said, I mostly defer to your opinion of Omer since you have been following him for so long (I watched many of those videos and read many of those threads too but I'm sure not as obsessively as others).

Edit: The other thing that's weird, is I havent seen any outspoken defense of not trading Asik until a week or two ago. Before then, I didnt see anyone who was really determined to keep him on the roster. Maybe its just because there wasnt a lot of rumors involving him.

I'm all for keeping Omer Asik but the Bulls have to play him over Kurt Thomas if we want to keep him. As of right now, Asik has been the better player this season. I love what Kurt did for us when Noah was gone but Asik is better.

Yeah, back in January Houston fans were ecstatic at the idea of getting picks for Lee:

Ok, Brother - you want to give me two first round picks (protection to be negotiated over a few beers) for Courtney Lee and I'll drive him to the airport myself.

Down here we'd probably see that as "overpaying;" but for the Bulls it would be an "all-in" deal. Lee, next to Rose, Noah and Boozeboy would be an outstanding fit. I would do that deal in a heartbeat - and not because I think that we're screwing the other team over. Lee is probably a better fit on the current Bulls team than he is down here. It would free up time to see what Terrance Williams could do, so that is a positive as well.

So...Courtney Lee for your 2011 and 2013 picks? Yeah, I'm on board. Just tell me what flight so I can get Courtney to the airport on time!

I'm shocked at how fast so many people on here want to "throw" Asik in the deal. What you don't understand is that come playoff time, his size is going to be needed. I'm all for getting Courtney Lee, don't get me wrong, but he's not the future SG of this team anyway, more of a one year fix.

Hang onto Asik, and if Houston doesn't budge, so be it. We've got a good enough team moving forward, IMO, no need to panic.

Whats more important in the playoffs to you? A having size on our bench to contribute maybe 15 minutes a night, or having a 2nd person if your starting lineup that can create offense taking the pressure off rose. Espcially considering how effort is maxed out every night and good defenses turn into lockdown defenses.

What's important in the playoffs to me? Defense. Defense, defense, defense.

Keith Bogans, say what you will about him, and I've cussed him out many times before, has stepped up and played better lately. He's knocking down the three ball, and is a solid defender. Absolutely, Courtney Lee is an upgrade, but not at the price of: A, losing solid defense presence in asik, and pure size. and B, acquiring Brad Miller's old ass, who can't play a lick of D and can barely get up the court. PLUS, he gets paid 2 more years after this @ 5 million.

But people swoon and faint at the mere mention of Afflalo, when in reality Lee and Afflalo are very similar (AA's better, obv, but it's not like he's WAY better)
Just about everybody is overrating somebody these past few days. Mayo is supremely talented but comes with significant question marks that some fans conveniently ignore. Lee is good and suits our needs well, but probably not a big picture difference maker. Hell, I don't know jack about Afflalo other than some people think he's better than the others and some don't think he's that good.

Here's an interesting stat on Afflalo. He's #7 in 3PT% at .438. Out of the top 40 best 3PT% leaders, Afflalo is #3 in 2PT% (at .550). Landry Fields is #1, Nash #2, Dirk is #4. So he's not just a 3 pt shooter.
