why are yanks nickel and diming millwood?

The Yanks are trying to just put warm bodies to fill slots.

It's a toss up between Garcia, Colon, and insert name. Certainly don't want to rush the young guys into the starting role because that was disastrous with Hughes and Kennedy.

Now with Wainwright out, the Yanks shot at acquiring Carpenter will depend on whether or not the Cards are in the hunt.

Every GM around the league knows the Yanks are desperate for starting pitching. It's like the NYC landlord that knows you NEED that studio but has several suckers on the list. They are going to RAPE you because they know you got the credit.

So Stay strong Yanks. If Cash's resolve is to stockpile the farm and lower the Lux tax then we agree to fight it out with the talent as is.

IMHO Cashman will look at what he has before adding anyone else. And if they need to go out and trade for another first line starter-- Carpenter, Zambrano, etc. they have the prospects and the money to do it. I'm not sure that, at this stage of his career, Millwood is significantly better than some of the younger guys they already have in camp.

I will take Carp but prob not for what STL will ask. I think we are headed to the season with what we have

Well, Colon looked ok today. IMHO he will be fine if he keeps the ball down. Joba looked very good.

Because we don't want to guarantee him a spot in the rotation. Or give him a guaranteed MLB contract, then have no where to put him when Cash works his magic. I'm not a Cashman fan, but I think he's taking the right route thus far. Patience, wait it out. It's baseball, games aren't played on paper.

Look, I see the #5 slot as the Brian Cashman masturbation slot. This is where Brian gets to experiment with his hunches. Last two seasons, Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin. This season it's Freddy Garcia and whoever can still throw 80mph. I'm fine with that. Pretty much Cash is copying the Boston Red Sox formula of 3 strong and 2 gambles. Only Brian doesn't have Theo's luck or skill even though both are after the same vision: how to get under the luxury tax without damaging winning traditions.

Well, it was Boras who caved, not Cashman. It is being reported that Millwood has an "incentive laden" minor league deal with an opt out if he's not on the roster as of May 1. Perfect! This gives Girardi a month to evaluate Garcia and Colon, with Millwood in reserve if they pitch badly. I guess they'll put Millwood in Scranton for now?

And what's the story on Mark Pryor? He has looked pretty good in has last few outlings. Will he also be sent to Scranton or will the Yanks carry an extra pitcher?

prior is going to the minors, he needs to build his arm up more

and yea, millwood is backup to when colon/garcia flameout

Honestly, I mean...does it matter? Colon, Garcia, Prior, and Millwood...If using all 4 for the #5 slot gets 10 wins then this Frankenstein of AAA All-stars is a success.

Garcia could get 10 wins all by himself. I'm predicting he will if he can stay healthy.
