Fantastic trade for Clips. How anyone even denying that? Getting rid of Baron's contract is definitely worth giving up a 1st rounder for.

more draw then your Cavs, even with James couldn't even get a guy like Ariza to sign there

Again, someone trying to rewrite history. Ariza didnt come to Cleveland because Lecon wouldnt commit to re-signing here. Ariza was smart to not sign when Lecon wouldnt tell him he was re-signing. And, yes we know it is hard to get players to come here, but if this team were in LA it would be easy. Gilbert is a far better owner than Sterling.
Anyway, nobody is going to get me down today, our team just traded Mo Williams for a top 10 pick. Thank You Clippers for this and for laying down to end the 26 game losing streak.

and knowing your team history you'll probably fall for the Freddete hype and he'll turn out to be another Luke Jackson  and its easy to think Gilbert is a better owner but outside of getting James what else has he done? allowed his GM to OVERPAY Huges then turn that into an past his prime Wallace/Wally...etc. We'll see how good of an owner he is in the next couple of years when there are no Lebron type players to get lucky with...Sterling sucks but now he has his James type player we'll see what he does with that.

How do you not protect that pick? Sterling's cheapness has begun to bleed the life out of the Clips

Because protection = no deal.

It's not cheapness. It's putting them in a good position going forward.

I actually like the gamble for both teams. The Cavs will now have two lotto picks in a draft in which both of those picks will be nice, I don't buy the weak draft talk. The Clippers are cheap, we all know that but at least it shows that they're committed in keeping Jordan and letting the core grow. Griffin and Jordan is a potential problem in the front court if they keep developing them. Moving a contract like Davis is not easy to do, this was the cost. Next year with Griffin-Gordon-Aminu-Jordan that's a solid four and evidently they like Bledsoe enough to make this gamble.

Why can't it be protection or no deal? Clips bent over here. I seriously doubt Cleveland turns down Mo for Baron at the price of a 7th or 8th pick, just because they're losing out on the 9% chance it gets top 3. Mo/Baron swap at the price of number 8 is a fair value deal. The Clips should've been smart enough to say we're only making this deal if it's the #8ish pick we're sending out, NOT top 3 with the egg on our face.

Clippers won the trade if the ping pong ball doesn't go top 7.

Can you imagine Griffen w/ another #1 overall pick.

I don't think Baron/7th or 8th for Mo is particularly fair. It would cost the Cavs an extra $12M+, get them a lazyass in Baron, AND the pick would be in a relatively weak draft.

This deal works out for both teams. Even if the Clipper pick were protected and fell in the top 3, they then might have another decent prospect but they wouldn't have enough space to get Howard or CP3 in 2012 which is far more important.

I know that getting rid of Baron's lazy, overpaid, fat butt is a huge thing for the Clippers. But to me this deal is more about what could have been with that draft pick. Not necessarily the player drafted, but what the Clippers could have acquired using that pick and say Kaman and/or Aminu. It's not like they are going to sign a big name free agent.

Instead they chose to save a few bucks, typical Clippers.

BTW, perhaps I am being pessimistic, but the Lockout could wipeout a good portion of the money owed to Baron Davis.

Bill Simmons said it best

Good trade for the Clips. Now they have enough 2012 cap room cleared for a marquee free agent who will never sign here.

Fair to say we will see in the next few years about Gilbert, but he didnt own the team when Luke was drafted or when Hughes was signed for that matter. I hopw Sterling doesnt make the same mistake that Gilbert did in letting his star dictate how the organization was run (to a degree) here.
I get why the Clips did this deal though, hopefully it works out for them in 2012, with their young talent they are in a much different place than our team. I think you guys will like Mo once he gets healthy if you give him a chance there.

No protection is dangerous. Should at least top 3 protect it, its not like this trade nets them a star.

Clips will have egg on their face if their numbers come up in the top 3 this year
