Any chance Blake Griffin would want to come home?

Post#1 » by wiff » Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:45 am

Ok I know this is a pipe dream but do you think there is any chance Blake Griffin would not accept the Clippers qualifying offer so he would be an unrestricted free agent so he could come back home and play for the Thunder during the 2014/15 season?

I watched the Clippers play the Maverick's a couple weeks back and his parents made the drive to go watch. A reporter was talking to his parent, and his Dad was already laying the ground work for Blake's exit. Saying things like Blake wants to play for a winner but no one can win all by themselves blah blah blah. And knowing Sterling well.... cheap is being polite.

It wasn't a direct shot at Sterling but you could read between the lines pretty easily. And it's understandable. It looks like Blake is going to be a superstar in this league for years to come.

That said you think he doesn't sign an extension in Clipper land so he can come play for his hometown in OKC?

I don't think OKC will have the flexibility to sign Griffin unless they purposefully clear space anticipating this. Which I don't thinkt hey will do.

Oh I think Presti could work his magic to leave a spot open. Or at least set himself up for a spot to clear.

If he had been drafted by a small market team, I would argue that we'd have a shot. But now that he has experienced Tinsel town, I'm sure the many glamours will send him on the chase for the big dollars/spotlight that a large market team can offer.

That said, I'd welcome him back in a heartbeat. Imagine the ovation he'd get night in night out in his hometown with his style of play.

He'll probably sign one extension there before he bolts if he even going to go.

Another other team than the Clippers I'd agree with you.

I am sure he would love to come to OKC. But, the Clips have already said they will sign him to a MAX deal. Plus w/ a new CBA a and the Thunder already doing their own thing. It is doubtful, at best.
