In some ways, I actually prefer Carter over Richardson. I'd rather have Lewis over Arenas. And I don't know if having Turkoglu (when he isn't even the playmaker) is better than the security of Gortat backing Howard.

I agree. I think the Phoenix trade was just ok. Don't think it makes us better or worse. But the Arenas trade. Very bad trade.

The Carter deal had to be made. He was a cancer apparently in the locker room and trust was lost between him and teammates.

I wish we immediately ditched Washington after shipping out Vince and Gortat though.

Safe to say Otis panicked and traded too early when even Stan said he thought the group would improve over the course of the season.

yeah i heard that despite appearances Vince was kinda distant in the Locker room and some of the players wasn't feeling that but i don't know if it was true or not

Hearsay, conjecture, speculation.

Point is VC > J-Rich for this team and it is arguable how big of an upgrade a washed up Hedo Turkoglu and Earl Clark are over Gortat and Pietrus.

The Arenas trade has been nothing short of a biblical disaster.

Those trades sucked. Hindsight is 20/20.

Phoenix trade was IMO 50/50 ..

- Dumping Vince for Richardson was a great move IMO, Richardson was one of the best players in last year's playoffs, while Vince was 1 big walking injury
- Getting back Hedo was also great IMO. Hedo's playmaking makes us a much more dangerous team than Nelson's

BUT

We did lose Gortat and Pietrus. I know Pietrus' defense was overrated, but he was a beter perimeter defender than anyone we have now. And losing Gortat has turned out to be a disaster. Imagine if we'd still have Gortat to go up against Bosh/Garnett/Boozer instead of Bass/Ryno (if Stan would use him at PF)

We'll see during the playoffs what impacts this team more, Hedo&JRich's offense or Gortat&MP's defense.

the trade with phx was highly unnecessary and it was bound to backfire like i said it would. it was clear as day perimeter defense was a major issues and otis went back and got some known offense players hes dealt with before. (comfort trades).

I'm curious, do any of you think that if we had waited to make trades we could have landed Deron or Gerald Wallace?

Possibly......?

Vince/Gortat/Pietrus alone wouldn't do it, but maybe we could have turned those guys into pieces that would have interested Charlotte or Utah.

Add in the first rd pick we sent to Phx, and an Anderson or Bass and maybe it could have happened.

Richardson is better than Carter in that he is younger and healthier, but what about Turkoglu?

We can talk about his superior playmaking all we want, but it means nothing at the end of the day because Jameer Nelson will always be handling the rock on this team. The Magic have fallen too far in love with their "All-Star" PG to take the ball out of his hands.

My only problem is what if we had waited? Gortat would have had HUGE interest from the Rockets. VC and his contract would have had interest around the league. Just makes you wonder if we could have gotten more especially out of Marcin. We will never know but I think had we held onto our pieces a while longer we could have gotten much much more. Im with Nemesis on this one, VC/Gortat/1st Rounder/Ryno/Bass/Jameer very well could have landed us Deron. Or some combination of those guys.

Ugh, it's almost depressing to think about.

We could have possibly had Deron ******* Williams. My 2nd favorite player who isn't on the Magic.

Instead, we got Hedo and Arenas.

anyone read otis's interview from yesterday afternoon? dude knows he **** up because he's saying the same crap he was saying before. "i like this team" and "guys have to make their shots".

never have i seen a gm gamble so much in trades and also gets the losing end. will this team ever get a gm that doesn't have a "go-for-broke" mentality?

You go for broke when you have an owner that can die any year now who badly wants a championship.

We've gone for broke, we'll see what it brings us in the postseason.

The Nets offered Devin Harris, Troy Murphy and the 2012 first round pick of Houston's for Greg Oden, Andre Miller and Joel Przybilla, according to the report.

Portland declined that offer and countered with the request of Golden State's 2012 first round pick, which is top-seven protected.

The Nets instead ended up acquiring Deron Williams.

Better move for the Nets gettin Deron

to be fair, everyone admits this team needs a second 'go to' player. i think Jameer dominating the ball is their answer to this, using the pieces that we have. at this point, i'm happy to hold out hope he gets it together and can return to playoff Jameer form. it's either that or we pray this team executes perfect 'team ball' every night, and that's not a gamble i'm willing to take.

and, yes, i know how much i championed Hedo when we acquired him, and i still stand by the fact he's our best playmaker, but i also realise that this team's evolution relies on someone stepping up as a second scoring option. the best candidates for that are Jameer, JRich and Arenas, and i'd rank them in that order as well.

There's a chance Murphy isn't getting a buyout. Both Danny Ainge (Boston GM) & Otis Smith really look stupid now, cause I think they both had their mind set on this guy

@SpearsNBAYahoo Marc J. Spears
@warriors haven't waived big man Troy Murphy yet and source tells Y! there are a "lot of considerations" now. Translation? Maybe he stays.

Return to Orlando Magic
