This trade deadline is bananas! MEM is wheeling and dealing right now.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

One of the busiest trade deadlines in years... Maybe since the C-Webb to Philly trade.

Great deal for the Cavs, bench guys gotten for scraps. Erdan must really blow.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves (Trade Deadline Edition)
Love what OKC did, but I don't get it for the Celtics. Maybe if Green still had time left on his rookie deal, but not with him about to be a free agent.
I also think this could be the beginning of the end of Steve Nash in Phoenix. If Aaron Brooks impresses, I can see them re-signing him and shopping Nash.
And it sounds like no Mayo-for-McBob after all. Awkward...

^^^Perkins didn't want to resign to what the C's were offering, and appearently he's looked pretty bad since his return. They were afraid they were going to lose him for nothing so they got something out of it.
The C's are now very beatable. Their only advantage was having Perkins and Shaq downlow. They would kill the Heat in a head-to-head. But now this changes everything.

I think the Celtics must be concerned about Perkins health. Other than Rondo, the team is all win now.

Yeah it was an amazing amount of activity and a lot of significant players and picks involved.

Yeah, but Green isn't going to sign for that amount of money either. And Perkins has only been back for like a week, and he's coming off an ACL. There's a good chance he'd look a lot better come playoff time.
My issue isn't that they traded Perkins. I get the reasons why they might go in that direction. But to give him up in a deal where you basically rent a backup forward who will likely walk over the summer? I don't know about that. Maybe they really believe Kristic will give them something?

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves (Trade Deadline Edition)
Boston and Clippers just positioned themselves for 2012.
Right now, it's Boston, Clippers, Washington, Kings, Bobcats, Cavs, Golden State, Indiana, Dallas, Minnesota, Phoenix, Portland, Utah all have major cap room for 2012 assuming the cap stays at $58 million.
But that doesn't factor in draft picks, or extensions, which I assume some of these teams might start doing. Edit: Doesn't factor in the cap lowering as well. I think a lot of these moves were done with 2012 in mind.
Should be a very interesting summer in 2012.

Pretty much tells you that Boston isn't worried about Orlando. This actually helps them with the Heat if they want to go smaller with KG at center and Green at PF.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves (Trade Deadline Edition)
I'm in the camp that thinks the Celts blew it. Perkins may not be 100%, but he's the guy who can keep Superman under control - if they play Orlando. Are they really comfortable with the combo they have at center now? Green is a good fit at the 3rd forward, but they lose Nate's explosiveness off the bench. And if they re-sign Green, will they be tying up future cap room on an average player? I think so.
Like others have said, maybe they just don't think Perkins will get healthy. If that's the case, I understand the deal. If it's not, I think Ainge blew it.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves (Trade Deadline Edition)
Speaking of curious moves, what's up with Portland? If they were willing to take on that much salary, why not go after a PG or a C? Why add yet another swingman?

McGee for Batum after the season might be good for both teams.

Cleveland waives Powe. We need another big after dealing Armstrong. I'd like us to take a look.

After years of misfortune the organization has finally snapped and trading for Wallace is step one in their diabolical revenge on the NBA's knees.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves (Trade Deadline Edition)
Green is back with the team that originally drafted him!
I guess the C's think that their window is rapidly closing, but that they are winning without Perk... so with him being expendable, they trade him for..... a backup combo swingman???
I guess they figure Krstic can give them enough off the bench behind O'Neal or O'Neal. And Green can assume the Lamar Odom role.
It seems like a bad trade from a Celtics perspective, and until i see how they use these new guys, i am not convinced that it actually isnt bad.
OKC got what they needed to make a big leap into true deadly contender status. Look out LA. Look out Dallas. When Perk (if?) gets healthy, he is what they need on D. And all for a backup C, a late first rounder and a guy who I like, who just wasnt fitting in due to roster conflict. Very keen to see the C's use him more at SF off the bench.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I think the Celtics are only focusing on this year in dealing Perkins. I think they may also think that Orlando doesn't have enough outside of Dwight Howard to take a series for them, even if Howard is practically unstoppable without having Perkins to guard him.
In some ways the Luke Harangody and Semih Erden trade is more baffling. I think the Celtics are counting on signing Powe and/or Troy Murphy. They already signed Chris Johnson to a 10 day contract.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves (Trade Deadline Edition)
I think the Celtics traded Perkins for Green because they've decided the Magic are not a playoff threat to them so they're focusing more on Miami. The Celtics needed Perkins to help deal with Dwight Howard, but if Howard's supporting cast is so poor that the Magic cannot threaten the Celtics then Boston has to focus on the next threat, Miami. Green is more poised to help Boston against a perimeter team like the Heat, I think the Celtics have decided.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves (Trade Deadline Edition)
Spence, that was my take as well. I think Boston sees Orlando as somewhat of a mess, the Lakers weakened and Bynum hobbled, and the rest of their competition getting smaller and quicker. I think we'll see a decent amount of Rondo-Allen-Pierce-Green-KG in crunch time. Ainge must think that with Shaq, Krstic, Big Baby, KG and Green that he has enough size. If he's right, he'll look like a genius. If he's wrong, C's fans will be calling for his head. Green is going to spend a lot of time defending beasts like Melo and Lebron.
I'm sure a lot of Bulls fans are frustrated that they didn't pick up a SG at the deadline. But they did get a nice little bonus -- Charlotte's trades of Gerald Wallace and Nazr Mohammed for a whole lot of nothing are going to help that Charlotte pick. I expect them to be pretty bad within a year or two, as they still have a lot of salary tied up in middling players and no impact draft picks. The Bulls are a great young team, but you just get the sense there one guy away.
OKC looks interesting, no? What a tough and physically imposing frontcourt rotation of Perkins, Ibaka, Mohammed and Collison. They must be banking on about 55+ a night from Durant and Westbrook. James Harden has to step up now, because if he can give them consistent offense why can't they win it all this year?
I think Dallas will regret not trading Caron's expiring. I know they think ROddy B is a future star, but it just seems like every year they fall short of expectations in the playoffs. I think it would have made sense for them to mortgage a little bit of their future to get a Gerald Wallace or even Battier. I don't know if they can make it out of the West with what they have.
