Who is Devin Harris?

Post#1 » by retiredcoach » Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:24 pm

Bigs like Favors don't need much explanation. They will either develop into dominate paint players or they won't. Drafting them is almost always based on their physical characteristics and potential. The Jazz picked up an excellent high potential big, so it's a simply a wait and see.

Point guards are more complicated and harder to evaluate.

This is a really good analysis of Devin Harris. This analysis also explains why he'll be popular with his teammates and why he's going to give it his best shot at winning in Utah.

Retired,

I appreciate the post. I think Harris is definitely a solid PG. This system will only make him better. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets to that 20 and 7 stage once again.

harris is a good scorer. he is fast and can blow by a lot of people. his defense has been non-existent the last 2 years. but when he puts his mind to it he is a very good defender. When he tries he is a very good point guard. one problem is sometimes he doesn't try.

Harris is not a passing point guard. He is a bad passer. Often times the nets center brook lopez would have great post position and harris would be the passer into the post and not make the pass or not be able to make it.

But in a pick and roll offense like the jazz run he can get a lot of drives to the basket and get a lot of points. Just don't count on the rest of the team scoring easy baskets from him.

This first season he will be great for the jazz. Everyone will talk about how the nets gave up on him. He was great for the nets his first season with them. But then the nets started to lose and harris started to not play hard. He doesn't have the leadership skills and drive to make will a team to win.

Good luck

No offense, but one of the reasons why he probably didn't try was because of the fact he would be rumored in a trade on a monthly basis and he's been on an AWFUL, and I mean AWFUL team. When you're put through that combination day in and day out for a couple years, it's going to drain you and you're going to lose your will to give it all you've got. That's one of the reason's why I feel so bad for Deron. He's got a season and 20 games to play for a really bad team.

I see this as being a resurrection for Devin. He's on a winning team, he'll be asked to run the show, and he's got a fan base that sells out games and will be behind him 100%. From just interviews and not seeing his play so far, I already love his attitude which is something Deron lost a lot of fans with.
