Mitch thinking T Murphy, Kapono, Powe

Post#1 » by snaquille oatmeal » Sat Feb 26, 2011 3:05 am

The Lakers will, however, look into adding a veteran player who is waived over the next few days. It's a speculative list, but power forward Troy Murphy and small forward Jason Kapono might be bought out by their teams by next Tuesday, the deadline for players to be waived and still be eligible for playoffs with another team.

"We're going to pay attention," Kupchak said. "Typically, the guys that get waived are veterans on bad teams in the last year of a deal and they go to their general manager and beg to be released."

Powe reportedly wants to go back to Boston, and they are reportedly interested in him. I don't see any downside to picking up any of these guys though.

Keep Powe away from here. All I remember when I see him is that coast to coast lay up in the finals.

Right now don't have a choice because it doesn't matter who we sign they don't get playing time over our current 9 man rotation.

I'm sure Troy Murphy could crack the rotation. In fact, I'd bet on it.

EDIT:

A bench of Odom, Murphy, Barnes, Brown, and Blake is pretty damn decent, if you ask me. I'm not a huge fan of the latter two, but they'll suffice. . . I hope.

As long as the team is open to adding a player. That is at lease something to hold onto. I am not saying the Lakers need a player or not. But you can never have enough players to go and get the 3rd in a row. #6 for Kobe and send Phil out on top.

My vote would go with Murphy.

Gadzuric would be pretty awesome too. A long and athletic big who can run the floor and play defense is exactly what we need.

Is there a strong possibility of him being bought out? That'd be an interesting pick up, as well.

I get the sense the Lakers may be facing Miami earlier than they thought. Against a team like that with not much to speak of at C you can get away playing an all offense player like Murphy or Powe.

I think there would be a huge benefit to trying something like:

PG- Bryant vs. Chalmers
SG- Barnes vs. Wade
SF- Artest vs. James
PF- Odom vs. Bosh
C- Powe vs. Anthony

The Lakers ability to post up on Chalmers will probably take him completely out of the game. I don't think the Heat are equipped to run with Wade at PG, since that puts a heavy burden on him for the game. On the other hand the Lakers playing out of the triangle can run really whoever they want as long as they can bring the ball up the court and Kobe and Odom can take care of that. Also that kind of lineup brings the athleticism necessary to slow the Heat in transition and cause them tremendous difficulty driving through the lane.

Either Murphy or Powe would be huge for providing a different type of offensive threat against the Heat.

Murphy would be a nice backup C and insurance... the other two would hardly ever play

You shouldn't be laughing, hombre. I think anyone here can elaborate on the numerous reasons why it's a horrible idea-- Absolutely horrendous, in fact. I'm quite appalled with your suggestion, hombre.

Nonetheless, you do realize that the other team gets to assign a player of their choosing to guard Kobe, right? I should just desist from an extension of a rebuttal, 'cause it'll be rather lengthy.

Cringe-worthy conception, hombre. . .

Please I insist continue with your rebuttal because if the other team assigns a LeBron or a Wade to Kobe one of the 6-6 and above players in this lineup will be able to post up freely either just below the elbow or in the low post against the other team's smallest player.

Defensively the fact Barnes is in versus Fisher-Blake is a bonus so it's definitely on offense that we have an issue to even argue. The only difference in the lineup is that you lose one ball handler but Odom is more than capable of helping to pick up the slack and honestly the only ball handling to be done is bringing the ball up the court. You're relying entirely on the triangle's post passing and cutting. The shooting is the same, the offensive rebounding is excellent, and the cutting is much improved with the athletic Barnes versus Fisher or Blake.

out of all the names dropped in this thread, I'd go with Gadz or Murphy. Kapono is pretty bad and I still get flashbacks to Powe's (fluke) game 2 against us and he can go eat a d.

+1

hahahah , dont you think the heat would put chalmers on the offensively challenged artest ? and have have lebron on kobe so that he wont post up? this is isint nba 2k11 where if you play gasol at PG , you will have nate robinson guarding him. and the idea gets better , you dont have gasol to push bosh around like a little girl , and would like to see powe in there instead of bynum? powes knees are worse than bynums .

ya taking out two of your best players when the other teams three stars are out there is an amzing idea              :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
