He's a good dude. I believe that he is incapable of playing defense, but not because he's a lazy jerk.

and has poor lateral foot speed.

He at least showed some quick hands.

AJ would have been a great 6th man just like Dallas used him.

Short on players for practice, the Charlotte Bobcats found an extra body in the front office: Michael Jordan.

The Hall of Famer and Bobcats owner suited up for Thursday's workout, participating in a full-court scrimmage and showing a few of the old moves that helped make him a six-time NBA champion.

''He's Mike. He's been kicking our (butts). He still has it,'' forward Gerald Wallace said. ''He doesn't have this quickness, but he can score, he's a shooter. The last thing to ever go is your jump shot and he has that.''

Jordan, who turns 48 next week, has been spending more time at practices and shootarounds, getting on the floor and doing some teaching. Thursday's practice was his most involved yet.

''He's holding these guys accountable and it's great. I love him out here,'' coach Paul Silas said. ''He's teaching them how to protect the basketball, how to play hard on defense, how to talk. It's a good thing.

LOL @ Paul Silas. Of course he's going to say that, because MJ is the only guy who was going to give him a job. He doesn't care if he's being undercut by the owner - he just wants to have a job beyond this season.

Yet if an assistant were doing it or they hired a big consultant, that would be fine.

Hey, if you have MJ, who is arguably the best player ever, available to teach your players something, why wouldn't you take advantage of that. If the Wizards were such losers when he got here, he would have taught them something without needing to actually take the court.

Kwame at 1.2M isn't a bad value at all.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... nkw01.html

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/s ... ayerId=981

6-11 270 and 28

And he is doing better with rebounding.

Since being inserted into the starting lineup, he's averaged 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks in 27 minutes.

That is very Haywood like but Haywood is making 7M

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... wobr01.htm

So I wonder what becomes of Chandler.

It is interesting to see the young centers out there. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/playe ... on/centers

2.4M for McGee next year is going to look like a pretty sweet deal. Add 10 lbs to this kid and another off season and I think he is going to start to shin more consistently.

I think it's a fair question to ask whether Jordan actually has any skills at teaching, though. Not everyone who is great at something can pass along the knowledge and skills that contribute to their greatness.

Jordan in particular has always seemed more of an intimidating presence than an edifying one. He might be able to tear people down, but I am unsure he can build them up. (See Kwame, Brown)

He doesn't want to. I've seen Jamison play defense before. Sustained defense for as much as a game or two and even longer. Especially when he's motivated to do (i.e. a benching, challenged by an opposing player, certain key situations, playing for a new team). His first week playing for the Wizards he played respectable D. For a few games after being benched once or twice at the end of games by EJ he played passable D. When he went to the Cavs the first couple of games he struggled to score but he stepped it up on the defensive end.

If Jamison can average 20 & 8. Be a solid offensive player and rebounder he's physically capable of playing defense. He's got no excuse and I hated when people would make excuses for him. If friggin' Wally Szcerzbiak can be a capable defender for the Cleveland Cavaliers than anyone can defend within a team concept. Anyone. Including Antawn. There is no excuse for his lack of effort and there never was.

I'm leaning towards he can't play defense. Even Jared Jeffries knocked down a few jumpers in games doesn't mean he stopped trying to shoot. Jamison was simply too slow to defend quicker power forwards and not strong enough to defend bigger ones. Heck, Jamison's game results mostly in throwing up perimeter jumpers and those weird looking forwards. Granted his effort defensive was sub-par in the Eddie Tapscott years.

We could actually use him. He might be a better PF than Andray Blatche

^^ 2nd straight game with at 9 free throws. The biggest difference is that he's playing the shooting guard position.

This makes me sad.

I hope Gil's knee eventually heals.

Hasn't Gil looked "done" for quite some time now?

He's scored over 20 points in 6 of his last 10 games.

What happens if Gil's knee never, ever heals in a manner that let's him play effectively?

What does he do?

Take a buyout and walk away from the game? Or stick around until the end of his contract, knowing that he's hobbling, taking up lotsa cap space, and not performing relative to his contract?

From statements he's made before, I think he would seriously consider medical retirement. On a related note, I really do worry about Gil. He seems like the type who could go broke within two-three years of leaving the league.

He's got 4 kids, child support ain't cheap. If he goes on medical retirement, does he still get paid?
