Gerald Henderson lovefest

Post#1 » by Fred Williamson » Sat Feb 26, 2011 7:29 am

Are there still people out there who think he's a bust? He's averaging 15.8/4.4/1.4 in the past 5 games on 52% shooting, plus excellent defense. He just needs to work on his 3point shot, and then he will make himself a name in this league.

I dare MJ to trade this kid.

5 games is a small sample size. I mean, the kid is playing well and I don't think we consider him a bust but still, give him more time.

have yourself some more stats, and see how he always drops at least 15points, given 30mpg playing time

The spirit of Bobcat Wallace lives on in the kid.

Trust me, I am a big Hendo fan, imagine what he could be if Brown didn't hold him back. I picture him and DJ being a part of the Bobcats for a long time in the future and I am okay with that.

I'm now convinced that a lot of his "issues" had more to do with LB being here. I don't think you can consider him a bust at this point (his production for a late lottery pick isn't bad at all) but he has to show that he can have great games consistently before the orgy starts.

From now until the end of the season will be a good test to see whether he's suited to be our future at SG.

in a perfect world, Hendo/DJ/TT stay part of our core, we draft Barnes, he becomes what scouts originally thought, the next Kobe in SF form.. we resign wallace in '13. he retires a bobcat, and either become an assistant coach or gets a front office job.

I said that by the start of next year (2011/2012 season) we wouldn't feel uncomfortable with him starting. I said that when he was still injured and LB was still coaching! So far looks to be on track for a correct prediction 8-) 8-)

So long as Hendo has a wing partner who can help create easy shots for him and also shoot the three ball then I think Hendo will be good.

He is by far our most solid prospect. I have a hard to time to comprehend how some guys pictured DJ as our new cornerstone PG and Tyrus as the second coming of Amare while not showing any love for this kid.

Here is why. LB kept him on the bench all the time while playing others instead, NO one got a chance to see the kid shine. LB just doesn't like the young guys too much. Jared Dudley would hve been a nice piece to keep around, but he was expendable since LB did not give him much of a chance. If LB had stayed here, there is a good chance Hendo would be in another uniform by the close of this past trade deadline. I am so happy the "legend" is no longer our Coach.

Love this. I've said this before, and it's aboslutely true. Watching Hendo reminds me A LOT of a young Wallace. Obviously they vary slightly, Hendo has a mid-range game. But they both hustle there buts off, provide highlight players, are aggressive (a new part of Hendo's game), and play really good defense. I think that Hendo can defiantly provide to us what Wallace provided us during his career, with less rebounds of course. I'm so excited to see what he can do as a starter the rest of the way. He has quickly become my favorite player, I just love to watch the kid play. LB preached play the right way all day, yet Hendo does PLAY THE RIGHT WAY and he never got PT. LB ruined him early, he should had gotten time.

I think when you look back and compared Hendo to James Hardin, Hendo will have the better career. So excited to see this core of DJ/Hendo/Thomas grow in front of our eyes. That is a very solid core to build from, our future DOES look good.

I absolutely loves the way Hendo plays. I hope he'll develop into something special, because he clearly has the tools to do so.

i have never enjoyed watching a player play defense as much as i enjoy watching henderson... except maybe shane battier (i swear i am not a duke fan - but damn coach k does wonders with smart players).

i love henderson as a 4th option on offense or as a 6th 7th man. still not sure i love him as a 3rd option.

i think once tyrus takes over for boris at pf that makes henderson 4th option and i can live with that. he should be good for 12-13ppg in that role.

Both DJ and Tyrus probably have a higher cieling than Gerald, but they all have potential to improve a lot.

I'm not sur ethey have a higher cieling, we just have not seen as much of Gerald. I would put them all 3 pretty much on the same level. DJ maybe slightly higher. I think all 3 could be very good/solid players. DJ is probably the one that has potential to be really special, which is why I would say his cieling is lightly higher. I don't see much of a difference between Hendo and Tyrus though. Especially if Hendo finishes the season like he has been playing the last 5.

I think Jax should be our #1 option, and DJ and Gerald at #2 and #3 respectively so that they stay involved in the offense and build confidence. I mean, there's no point trying to coax Diaw to shoot more. DJ is too good a shooter and too poor a defender to not be a volume shooter and Gerald needs touches to improve his shot.

DJ is showing himself to be a good distributor. His shooting off the dribble is improving, which helps a lot since Diaw might not be starting next year. But DJ's defense isn't that bad, he just needs to learn not to rotate before the play even unfolds and stop cheating on d.

No, for his size DJ has become a pretty good defender but he'll always have that handicap, especially when his quicks start to leave him years down the road. I just think that to max out his potential he needs to always look for his shot to keep defenses honest and there should be plenty of shots to go around now with Wallace gone.

I didn't mean to sound like he was horrible on defense, sorry.
