My Friday has been exactly like this:

Killing time, I was playing with the lottery draft simulator.

The first 6 times in a row, the Wizards *dropped* to number 5 or 6.

Spence wrote:I really don't see how any of this is even controversial. Gilbert was the best player the Bullets/Wizards franchise has had since, at the very least, Bernard King was putting up 28 ppg. He's just terrible right now. That's just how it is. Doesn't bother me if you want to shoot the messenger, though. Your shot has a better chance of going in than what Gil's been throwing up lately.

It's not about that, anybody who has paid any attention at all can tell that Gilbert is playing horribly. However, anyone who expected Gilbert to be anything BUT horrible coming off the bench for the Magic clearly has not followed his career much. I explained here many times since the trade that Gil has always been out of his element unless he is given a clear directive from the coaching staff that he will have the ball in his hands and is the one of the top options at all times. He played horribly in every All Star game he's been in, and he played horribly with the USA team (before being dismissed.)

I just don't see what there is to gain by pointing out how horrible Gil has been lately, especially when Ra$hart has regressed his self. The trade doesn't look any better yet, and won't until we do something with the money saved on the difference in their contracts. Ra$hart is not a better fit here, is not providing anything in the locker room, and is not producing better #'s than Gil did as a Wizard.

I also did not necessarily mean you specifically who keep **** on Gilbert, it's a handful here who like to snicker at every opportunity and bring up how badly Gil has been with Orlando, when realistically we all need to simply move on and forget about Gilbert. He hasn't been relevant in the NBA since 2007 and he is not a part of this franchise anymore. He gave us some great years and I'd like for some to simply appreciate what he did here and move on. It doesn't help the Wizards any that Gilbert is sucking in Orlando, and given the circumstances and his tumultuous personal life over the past couple years - I don't know why anyone would be surprised by it.

Ace, I'm pretty surprised Gil has been this awful and I'll bet the Magic would never have traded for him had they known he was going to play like this. After all, they're on the hook for Gil's gigantic salary for several more years. Lewis' contract is awful, too, but at least the agony ends earlier with him.

For the DC-area residents: I dropped by the Newseum today. Well worth a visit if you haven't done so already, though it's a good idea to find a coupon or special deal since it costs well over $20 per person to visit. It's a technologically dazzling museum -- and it should be at that price. My wife and I killed 3 hours in there without noticing the time passing. For sports fans the exhibit of Walter Iooss photos is a complete blast.

Seems to work for me....

I'm going to watch. This is probably the one year where I don't even have to worry about where we will pick. We've got John Wall.

Do we really even need a #1 or #2 pick? I mean, sure, it would be awesome if we got the 1st pick because its trade value is so incredibly high, but from a pure player perspective, we should be able to find a solid forward even if we pick 5th or 6th (I think Sullinger or Williams will be available).

I wouldn't want the top pick in this draft. I'd be fine with the 4th pick or something like that. It's not a good draft at the top. It'll get worse if Kyrie Irving doesn't turn pro.

A lady friend invited me to the opera. She also happens to be a performer herself. I had never been before (and unless we hookup or she's providing tickets again, yesterday was my been there done that). La Traviata was nice.

Two random factoids I did know before yesterday helped me make small talk and not seem totally clueless. One, "The opera isn't over until the fat lady sings." Also, somebody dies in the end.

From knowing my friend once told me she lost 40 pounds before I met her, I asked if that didn't affect her singing. Sure enough, it has. She went on into a lovely discourse during which I had the focus of Homer Simpson thinking "Mmmm donuts ...". Honestly, I didn't understand but I was glad I asked her that. She enjoyed answering. Later, there was a second intermission after the chorus took a bow. A few folks got up and left thinking the performance was over. According to a lady I got to know at the first intermission, (a former opera singer herself, 94 years old but looked about 75, who was trying to help CCJ get the hookup, God bless her), the cast had done something they usually only do at the end. Thus some apparent neophytes left. Not me.

Even without my friend telling me it wasn't over, I figured out nobody died yet. Sure enough, the final act had a lot of drama which ended with the female lead dying at her lover's feet. And yes, that lady with an angel's voice was pleasingly plump!

My love life doesn't even have that much drama. :)

Does BYU *really* think that their players will remain celebate throughout their college career? Really?

Oh the other hand -- Dude, you know going in that BYU has that no-sex rule. Don't like it, you shouldn't have signed and played there.

Brandon Davies was dismissed from BYU's basketball team after he admitted to having sexual relations with his girlfriend, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday.

BYU's honor code forbids students from having premarital sex and instructs them to "live a chaste and virtuous life."

The newspaper reported that Davies met with school officials on Monday.

BYU officials would only confirm Wednesday that Davies wasn't involved in anything criminal that resulted in his dismissal from the team.

University spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said an honor code review is under way to determine if the BYU sophomore will be allowed to remain in school, as well as his status with the team next season.

BYU's honor code also requires students to be honest; abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee and substance abuse; and attend church regularly.

The school announced the dismissal on Tuesday night after being made aware of the violation Monday -- the same day that BYU (27-2, 13-1 Mountain West) vaulted to No. 3 in the ESPN/USA Today and AP polls.

You can't drink coffee? Dude, what the ****?

Truth be told, is this the same kid who grew up across from BYU and was basically pressured to go there? I don't understand why some of these kids go to these mormon schools expecting it to be a regular college. Sure, all universities have some sort of conduct code, but you can still get laid and have beer...coffee too.

i've got a wedding on saturday. planning on wearing coat and tie. gray slacks, gray shirt, and houndstooth jacket. black shoes? does that work? i only have black/brown. nothing fancy like... OXBLOOD or anything. would a gray/blue tie work? too gray? i hate black/blue, and i feel like brown/kakhi would look too informal.

This isn't a random thought, but I didn't want to start a useless thread and I didn't see any applicable thread on your forum.

Kevin is showing great promise. He's definitely a bruiser. He doesn't shy away from contact at all... in fact, his biggest problem right now is that he demolishes people on screens and gets called for offensive fouls every few minutes. =p

He's not rebounding at a high rate, but we seem to do well as a team when he's in the game. I think he boxes out well, and holds his position like a tank, though he doesn't have a killer nose for the ball. Defensively he's good but can be shot over by taller centers. Offensively he has a smooth hook and shows good mobility, but is clearly still developing his game.

So, he's a project for sure, but he's showing both promise and improvement already.
