Which 2011 Free Agents should we target this offseason?
and is their a minimum total payroll per season that the league requires? because the team only have USD 50million in payroll season. Can the team decide to maintain the 50million and do not sign any free agents assuming no trade is consummated?
how about getting Gortat, Jordan, Hawes, Landry Gasol and Prince

Re: Which 2011 Free Agents should we target this offseason?
This depends so much on the new CBA I think it's mostly pointless to talk about this right now. For all we know there might not even be a 2011 free agency

Re: Which 2011 Free Agents should we target this offseason?
There is no minimum cap in the NBA to my knowledge, and if there is, it's defiantly not 50 million. Bottom line is, it is still way too early to talk about the offseason as we don't even know about the CBA. For all we know there may not even be an offseason or a season, like whats going on with the NFL.
Plus, I think it's much more likely that they make a trade involving the picks and the open cap space than it is that we sign someone. I still have a VERY good feeling that CP3 is the guy they have there eyes on. If we could trade Diaw at seasons end for a draft pick then i'm sure they would throw a package centered around DJ and the picks at NO for CP3. Outside of a CP3 trade, i'm not sure it would be very wise to give out any big contracts this offseason. They just need to draft young guys and go after young guys. If Marc Gasol doesn't decide to go back go Memphis (he is a restricted free agent) then he would probably be a guy we go hard after. Kendrick Perkins as well, but both those guys will stay on there respected teams I believe.

Re: Which 2011 Free Agents should we target this offseason?
And btw, here is a list of upcoming free agents if we want to keep this thread going.
Andrei Kirilenko ($17.8)
Carl Landry ($3)
Carlos Arroyo(notes) ($1.2)
Carmelo Anthony ($17.1)— Player Option
Caron Butler ($10.6)
Dan Gadzuric(notes) ($7.2)
David West ($8.3)—Player Option
Eddy Curry(notes) ($11.2)
Glen Davis ($3.3)
Greg Oden(notes) ($6.8)—Qualifying Offer
Jamal Crawford(notes) ($10.1)
Jason Richardson(notes) ($14.4)
Jeff Green(notes) ($4.5)— Qualifying Offer
Joel Pryzbilla ($7.2)
JR Smith ($6)
Kendrick Perkins ($4.4)
Kenyon Martin ($17.2)
Marko Jaric(notes) ($7.6)
Michael Redd(notes) ($18.3)
Mike Dunleavy ($10.6)
Nazr Mohammad ($6.9)
Predrag Stojakovic ($15.3)
Rodney Stuckey(notes) ($2.8)— Qualifying Offer
Samuel Dalembert(notes) ($12.2)
Sasha Vujacic(notes) ($5.4)
Shane Battier ($7.3)
Shannon Brown(notes) ($2.2)—Player Option
Tayshaun Prince ($11.2)
TJ Ford(notes) ($8.5)
Troy Murphy(notes) ($12.0)
Tyson Chandler(notes) ($12.8)
Vince Carter(notes) ($17.3)—Team Option
Wilson Chandler(notes) ($2.1)— Qualifying Offer
Yao Ming(notes) ($17.7)
Zach Randolph ($17.3)
Now that Wallace is gone, Jeff Green is a guy I would put a lot of value on and would be worth the money. He is young and had been playing out of position in OKC. He is a SF. But again he is a restricted free agent and i'm not sure that Boston is going to just let him walk.

There is a minimum salary cap, thats why Sacramento traded for the injured Marquis Daniels, just to stay above it. But its in the $40 millions.
If we want a CP3 type player on this team, then we gotta start getting some more talent. Miami have set the trend and I can see a lot more "star" players wanting to team up. Going to make it awfully tough for us.

Ah! Thanks for the info! I didn't think it was 50 million. i think MJ is willing to take a risk and trade for the guy, let him play for a year, then hope to resign him. Much like what NJ just did. Quite honestly, I think we would have a good chance to keep CP3. The fan support for him here would be unbeleviable. The stadium would likely be packed. Charlotte is a place most athletes want to live at. And most importantly your owner is MJ and MJ is going to practice with you and be heavily involved. I think most players will really value that if they just spent the time to come to Charlotte and talk to MJ and expereince the city.
Going back to Jeff Green. IF we could sign him, then use our 2 draft picks then I think we could really improve ourselves. Even if you keep Jax for another season and just have Green on the bench for now. It just depends on how much he is going to want. Hopefully his play drops off a bit with the C's and his price goes down. What do you think the asking price would be for Green? I would say between 6 and 8 million. Kind of similar to Felton. I think I would still do the deal if it was 8 million though....
DJ/Hendo/Green/Thomas/? as a future lineup. That's not too bad.

Wouldn't you consider Jeff Green as a young prospect? He is 24 years old, and at least with him you know what your getting. He is a prooven player versus a draftee who could be a bust.

There is, and it's 75% of the cap.

Re: Which 2011 Free Agents should we target this offseason?
time for one of our capologists to break down the new trade.
what salary to we have committed for next season including cap holds for picks and free agents? i assume we are either still over the cap (assuming it stays same - which nobody knows) or only slightly under meaning our free agency would be limited to using MLE. if we are trying to get under cap enough to make a run at cp3 in 2012 i cant see us adding any long term salary this summer.

I do, IF they expect to be able to get expirings for Diaw.

I'm not sure about cap holds, but if the cap were to stay at 58 million we would be 8 million under the cap next season. So MLE would be off the table. I also think that were much more likely to pursue a trade for CP3 this summer than anything else. I think it's the best shot we have at obtaining him.

i think you are right about pursing cp3 this summer. i am about 95% positive jordan will go after him again. give us one year to convince paul to stay long term. i could see jordan offering something like dj, hendo two 1st round picks and diaw for cp3. then we try to build around cp3, jax and tyrus and use cap space in 2012 to add another big name player.

I don't know how much Paul would like to be here though. We would have to get some idea before giving up hendo and DJ. We'd be devastated if he left.

I think it's something that MJ is willing to risk though. Whether it's right or wrong would be the question. Bottom line though, you can't evne sniff a championship in this day and age unless you have a super star. So is it wrong to risk everything at a chance to obtain that superstar even if he may not stay? Is that value of a superstar enough to risk everything for? That's the question MJ is going to have to answer, and I think he is going to say yes.

Re: Which 2011 Free Agents should we target this offseason?
I agree with everyone's notion about the CP3 thing. I think Jordan plans to make a move for him next off-season and re-sign him instead of waiting for 2012 as he hits UFA. It's going to be similar to the Carmello thing. The competitors (serious competitors) for CP3 will be Charlotte, NY, and NO. However, I think NY will give Derron a serious look as well and I'm sure he'd love to play there. The Knicks giving up Felton and getting Billups who they can just not re-sign (team option) is going to be in our way for CP3 I'm sure.
I think having Diaw as an expiring contract will certainly help. We could give them prospects like DJ/Hendo + Diaw and a bunch of draft picks to make it happen. I don't think we could also take back Okafor though without a third team if they were looking to shed that contract as part of this.
