trust me I am glad we got Shane, but I feel like the Grizzlies overpaid to get him.
I feel like Thabeet and Carroll alone was a fair offer for Shane so why throw in a first round pick? Beet is a 2nd overall pick who has potential to be a defensive beast and Carroll will probably stick in this league a while ala Chris Wilcox type player. I mean we all know Beet might end up a total bust even with PT but Battier could have been signed this offseason without sacraficing a first round pick.
Heck if we needed a defensive SF to fill in for Gay then James Posey could have been had for cheap.
Also I really liked Carroll as he brought size but I have no idea why we got Ishamel Smith when there are 3 PG's ahead of him already ? couldn't we have gotten a better throw in?
The Grizzlies are just horrible negotiaters when it comes down to it. I live in Memphis(U of M area) and I just hate how they never go after smart deals and always overpay and always trade their star players way too cheap(PGasol) and that possible horrible Mayo-McRoberts deal when we have Randolph and Arthur who are better?
Honestly, they could have also told Houston that they knew they had a glut of wing guys and they knew thats why they were shopping Battier. I am almost positive Houston would have taken the deal with 2 2nd rounders instead of a first. They could have backed Houston into a corner easily but they decided just to be like (OMG GOTTA HAVE SHANE BACK, HOW MANY FIRST ROUND PICKS!!!!!?)

"People talk about Clyde Drexler being the best player on the team, but I say it was Kevin Duckworth. If he played well, we knew we were going to win."

The first round pick is protected. The Grizz needed to move Thabeet. He's bad. Carroll is almost equally as bad.

Re: Gave too much up for Shane?
Thabeet's a bust and Carroll will be spending the rest of his career in Europe. Further, we're at a point (right now and for the next few years) where we need proven talent more than rookies and draft picks - and we tend to miss on draft picks anyway.
"Rocketsftw" is an interesting name for an alleged Grizz fan.

Re: Gave too much up for Shane?
Which player, Thabeet and a pick or Battier is more valueable to the Grizzlies making the playoffs this season? That's all I care about. There's alot more ways to skin a cat than a mid round draft pick. I'm not concerned.

His worth will be seen in the playoffs. He can hit big 3s and can lock down perimeter players

I've seen homerism of fans before, but the OP has taken it to another level. Battiers struggling a bit, but the grizzlies still made a good deal. Two warm bodies and a 1st for Battier.

With Rudy Gay out for the season and Memphis in a struggle to the finish for a playoff spot, the Battier trade looks even better as something of great need.

Re: Gave too much up for Shane?
I'm spellbound that the Grizzlies actually went out and got insurance at the 1, 3, and front court (Leon Powe) like they did. I don't think in all years of this franchise they have done that. When else did they bring in players of that caliber for a late season push? In the previous playoff years we had the roster pretty set but still had weakness IMO. Now they really have done something. I would thank Chris Wallace first of all for getting Leon Powe.
The only wrinkle is the OJ Mayo for McRoberts trade that was not to be. WTF was that?
