The new Bobcats Reality
As reality sets in, we are sure to feel the pain of being a lesser team than we were before. Crash was a marginal 1-time all-star, but he is talented beyond all other players on this team other than Jax. Nazr currently is more productive than Pryz, and I doubt that will change over the remainder of this season.
Reality is we are likely to miss the playoffs this season. If so we will need a major dose of lottery luck, as there are few impact players this year. Relying on the draft is now our only way out of this abyss.
Reality is we're paying for the sins of the fathers before us. After the Vincent debacle, hiring Larry Brown was indeed a dance with the devil. He brought great knowledge and teaching prowess, as well as league cache. But his methodology played out exactly as it had with other teams...resulting in a slow death march of bad contracts and deals that placed us into salary hell.
Reality is MJ is at the poker table, and with the chips running low, he's betting big on draft luck, in hopes that his young prospects and some marginal role players can come to Captain Jack's aid over the next 2 years. Then MJ hopes for more luck about the time the big ugly contracts disappear. It's a long shot, but MJ loves making the big bet.

Re: The new Bobcats Reality
LB made us less of a laughing stock, the cost was Diop, who is our only really bad contract. Hammer and Boris are overpaid, but not in a long term, team crippling way. Tyrus is a huge risk with potential for a huge gain.
If Silas can keep these guys buzzing and the FO can add a couple of players with some potential and skill, I'll be a happy camper, because these guys are going to be fun to watch and they'll win enough games to be a playoff team.

Re: The new Bobcats Reality
I'm actually the most positive on this team I have been in a while. We're righting some wrongs. Unfortunately it costs us Crash and we have to wait another few years to really be serious. Look at how the top teams are constructed. Multiple all-star guys with at least one superstar.
The race for CP3 begins.

Probably a fair statement. However, my post is more directed to what MJ said in his letter and his subsequent press comments regarding the trades. He said he's not satisfied trying to be a 7th or 8th seed, and these actions are part of the formula for getting to a much higher place. I agree with him, in that something had to be done to change the ecosystem for getting to his goals.
My point is, the cure is not going to be very tasty. Dealing key talent for cap space and marginal players will give us opportunity, but ultimately great draft picks (and luck) are needed to move this team to a true contending status. I happen to think we will not be there for another few years. The only way we moved there soon would have been to keep Crash, deal (somehow) for another major difference-maker at the 4 or 5, and couple that with significant growth from our young players. Instead we took away a difference-maker, and added a couple of role players (Cunningham and Pryz). That will not get us higher faster or sooner. Not bitchin'...just sayin'.

There is a benefit to young guys who know their role already as NBA players. Give me a dante cunningham over an older guy who plays teh same role any day. He'll grow with the team and, despite his relatively minor role, will be part of a chemistrious whole. Tyrus will be 27 in a couple years. I hope he''s one of the 3-4 oldest members of the team at that point.

I really get the feel jordan is trying to get some picks together to try and steal chris paul......i think he has seen how the knicks got melo and NJ got paul...they all had multiple picks where we had none....that said i dont think its going to work

Picks are the only way to sweeten the pot without adding salary or roster spots.

I do worry about Jax in that no player wants to see a team purposefully throw the rest of the season, least of all a guy like Jax who really cares about winning.

it all depends on how good the picks are and how much salary you can absorb....then the less sweetner you need.........that said there are no derek favors on this roster

Re: The new Bobcats Reality
every move that jordan has made since he became full owner has been consistent with what he is saying
MJ says - doesnt want to be a 7th or 8th seed. is doing this to win championships. doesnt see point in paying luxury tax until the team is much closer to contending for a championship.
i think there are a lot of owners, especially small market owners who are content to just be average. maybe MJ is naive for thinking he will ever have a chance to compete for a championship in charlotte, but i at least respect the fact that he seems to be willing to try to make big things happen.

I think CHA are contenders right now.
