Holy crap! EG FTW!

So I guess that means we bought him out for something like $2.5M, or whatever the prorated amount of his $5.8M salary is. So he'll cost about $1.5M or so against our cap next year. (I'm still trying to figure out if the buyout fee is proportional to his total contract for this year and next year, or if it's proportional to the remainder of his contract this year and next year. Basically, is that $2.5M buyout fee weighted roughly equally this year and next year, or is it heavily weighted towards next year?)

Why? I'm pretty sure agents get their full commissions up front. Now Falk is free to go sign Bibby elsewhere and make another fee.

It's rare for a player to want to say he's willing to give up an entire year's worth of salary to go play somewhere else. I mean even Troy Murphy probably only left a couple of mil on the table. That was Bibby's last big contract.

Okay, so EG absorbed Hinrich's salary in exchange for Seraphin and $3M cash. He then traded Hinrich for Crawford, the #20 pick, and Bibby. He then got Bibby to shave off $6.2M of what he is owed. In the final analysis, EG spent a grand total of $7.8M to get Seraphin, Crawford, the #20 pick, and a 60-game rental of Kirk Hinrich.

Gotta give the Wiz credit - waiting for him and the bird of prey to initiate the buyout talks. I think that gave the Wiz the bargaining power.

Congrats to Shakur - assuming the Wiz sign him for the rest of the season. He's it as far as a backup PG.

Marc Spears Tweets:

Guard Mike Bibby agreed to give up entire $6.2 million salary for the '11-'12 season to get buyout with Wiz to play for winner, source says.

Go Ernie!!! Last summer's cap room turned into 3 firsts and 2/3 of a season of Kirk Hinrich and that's it!

Wow.

For Rico

I still want Ernie fired ASAP. Mark Pritchard for GM

I don't think Bibby had a whole lot of choice if he wanted to play for a winner. I think the Wizards were willing to roll with Bibby given the fact they wanted a mentor for Wall and they don't have much options at PG. Bibby had to make it impossible for the Wizards to say no, and he did.

Who knew that being such an awful franchise actually puts us in a position of strength when negotiating. EG can look anybody in the eye and say, "You better accept this buyout or... we will willingly keep you! No matter how much you suck, you're still an upgrade over what we've got."

 Yeah, you always have more bargaining power when you have nothing to lose.

Kirk is actually out tonight with a calf injury. I guess that injury was legit after all.

You use the leverage you have.

When we needed to dump CB, Haywood, AJ, etc, some wanted more but we didn't have enough leverage. Now that EG has more, he did well moving Kirk and then getting Bib to except a favorable buyout.

And Mo doesn't suck.
