K-Mart? Or other free agent options..

Post#1 » by Aussie 2point0 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 12:33 pm

Just a question Guy's. K-Mart is a free agent this year. Is it possible for Denver to do a sign and trade for Trout and Petro? My Main question is can we have K-Mart for 20 mill over 5 years with a 10 mill first year and 2.5 mill for the next 4... Could it be done?

Not for one second saying we do this just asking if something like this can be done....

Cheers

I'd take him back over Humphries so long as we had a solid backup in place and he was on the right contract. Would be great for the fanbase and is the exact kind of guy Lopez needs on this team. I'm not sure anyone would give KMart 4 years so maybe there's other creative ways to get him.

I'm more in favor of dangling big money 1 year deals at vets like Kmart, AK47, and other people like that. Maybe throw in a partially guaranteed 2nd year.

Eh I love Kmart. He is still one of my favorite players in the NBA, but I don't know if I want him.

First, I'm not sure if we can structure a contract like that in the NBA. You can in other pro sports and I know you can have declining contracts in the NBA, but I don't know if it can be on that grand a scale.

Second, he only has 2-3 good years left max, and I wouldn't even consider them "high level." I'd much rather spend the money the best PF we can grab or something.

Third, a lot will depend on the new CBA. I'm saying I'm totally closed to the idea of adding Kmart, but I'd much rather just offer him a part of the MLE. If he takes it, hey that's cool. You can start now then become a role player the next few years.

But still, as much as I love Kmart, if I had to make a top 10 list or free agent targets, he's either be #10 or possibly not even on it.

Well, If you can get any player for a contract structured like the OP mentionaed, and the other team also takes Outlaw's and Petro's contract off your hand, it is a no brainer...
You do the trade, even if K-Mart will never put on a jersey for your team :)

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to structure a contract like that (5 years, first year at 10 mill, the rest 2,5 per year)
And of course no team in their right mind would ever sign and trade their free agent player to take on the contracts of Outlaw and Petro.

I'm thinking that BK when making his moves from this point will be trying to make a team that the players are in their prime to grow with Dwill. With that said PF that can score and rebound would be the goal with Humpries returning to his backup role. The only thing possible for us to look at is Z-bo.

Love what kenyon brings defensively, but for a power forward he does not rebound. We need a guy who can rebound to pair in the frontcourt with brook.

Randolph jumps off the page immediately, but he isn't a great defender. If they do dicide to take a flyer on kenyon (who has been playing extremely well of late), it becomes all the more important to put wings in place that rebound well for their position.

If kenyon is had for cheap, signing Wilson chandler and Andre kirilinko would give us a starting 5 of

Deron
Chandler
Kerilinko
Kenyon
Brook

That would be a tremendous defensive unit with solid rounders on the wing and good athletes across the board. You may lose some flexibility but you would still have the young pieces in place to make a trade for dwight enticing for Orlando.
