Point A, I actually agree, I think it's a team that plays any team in the NBA tough in a seven game series, but probably never quite gets there. The reality is, it's extraordinarily difficult to put together a championship roster. If we don't get Dwight, it isn't happening.

The team reminds me of the early 2000s Nets, and it has the same weakness; just not quite enough scoring in the half court. That all said, I have to hope Deron would be happy reupping with that team around him.

B, I agree Portland is getting the better of us there. In a sense, it's a desperation move to contend next year. But I honestly don't know if we could get much better than Wes Matthews if we shopped around a Brook Lopez and Outlaw package.

C, I can hope, can't I? :)

You know I was thinking yesterday, it's too bad we couldn't have pulled off the Deron and Melo trades simultaneously.

Denver was supposedly extremely high on Brook, we probably could have sent Troy, Brook, Hump and Sasha with the Houston pick and a future 1st for Melo and Nene.

Even if we couldn't have gotten Nene, just Melo for Brook, Troy and picks would have gotten it done.

Obviously it would have needed Melo's approval, but that would have been nice.

I think the most important part of the future is making the playoffs next season. There is no way Dwight is going to come to a lottery team this offseason.

The Nets need to focus on signing good role players this off season to compliment Deron and then be a 6-8 seed in the playoffs. Then and only then would Dwight think of signing here.

First thing I would do is get Deron to ring Howard and see if he's interested as soon as the season is over. If he is interested we make our move and look to trade for him in the offseason.

If Howard has no intention of coming then we have to go and bring in the best players we can to make a good team. If we don't we lose Deron so we need to push the boat out.

I'd love to sign Nene and play him PF beside Lopez, then look to bring in a few good young players with high upside.

I'd go for Nene and Chandler in FA agency and make a trade for Mayo IF there is no chance of Howard coming.

I personally think we have a very good chance of getting Howard but only in a S & T (I wonder if they will exist in the new CBA).

So if were turned down by D12 I'd take a line up of:

D Will (26)
OJ Mayo (23)
W Chandler (23)
Nene (28)
Lopez (22)

I suppose even if we did sign those players we could always trade them in another package if at the deadline Howard of another star became available for a S & T.

Just my thoughts out loud..

I think most people were referring to trading for Dwight this offseason especially considering the fact that he's still under contract for next season and he can't sign anywhere this offseason anyway. If it was a trade, then Howard wouldn't necessarily have a strong desire to come here. What would be interesting would be to see if the FO would do the deal for Howard without requiring an extension upon completion of the deal.

I like the backup plan although I have heard that Nene and Denver are working on an extension now cuz I think he wants to get it done under this CBA. Also, I think Tyson Chandler is a bit overrated. He's most effectively in his situation in Dallas where Dirk draws all of the attention and Tyler is there to just clean up the garbage and get lobs.

And I think you mean Howard would be an extend & trade, not sign and trade, unless you're referring to 2012. But then at that point D-Will would be a FA as well.

Yeh sorry, I'm not good with all the basketball lingo, an extend & trade.

I'm not interested at all in Tyson Chandler, there's just to much at stake to put to much money into him with an inconsistent past.

I read that about Nene and I highly doubt he makes it to FA but I'm clutching at straws because I don't see to many real game changers in the RFA & UFA market. Just trying to find a decent outcome if we get knocked back by Magic/Howard.

As long as we don't preserve cap space next season with another crap team and prey Howard joins us because I have my doubts he would sign in that senario. We could end up with 2 superstars or none, massive risk.

I'm bricking it to be honest about the off season and the moves we make.

Haha..my bad. When you said Nene and Chandler in the same sentence I thought you were referring to two big men, not the Chandler that is on the Nuggets now along with Nene lol.

The knicks show their incompetence and bought out Corey Brewer. Mile, you've seem to like/dislike (don't remember which) him, what can you tell us about him and would he be a good pickup?

At this point, Jeff, it wouldn't hurt to pick him up. While he can't shoot worth a lick, he can defend, unlike Outlaw.

Wow I suck, how the hell did I forget VC?!

Curly too, but he's a good bench player, not a starter to me, although obviously some of the guys I listed are as well.

LOL I was wondering how the hell you forgot VC.Yea i would like Nenad as a back up center.I hear Rasual Butler is going to sign with the Bulls. It seems theres not alot of teams interested(including the Nets)in signing him.He could end up in Dallas but most likely the Bulls. He would've been a nice pickup for the Nets for the rest of the season.

Now update that free-agent list and put it in the Official Rebuildation thread
