Colby Rusmus deal? (new speculation)
I was just listening to the Jays game on the FAN590 and they mentioned that, since St.Louis just lost Adam Wainwright for the season, they need a starting pitcher badly. Otherwise they will lose Pujols and Carpenter already looks disappointed before the season even starts....... and their star outfirlder Colby Rusmus is apprently unhappy in St.Louis and would welcome a change.
Enter the Jays, with a problem of their own.... a good problem though. Toronto has too many young capable pitchers and only 5 rotation spots..... know where i'm getting at?... also AA apprently tried to get Rusmus earlier.... well thats what they speculated. That there could be some interest from both sides to get a deal done.
Now obviously, we are "NOT", gonna get Rusmus for a guy who dosent make out rotation, example, Listch, Zep, Richmond, or even Zach Stewart. If we wanna talk serious, they will atleast demand one of the big 4 Romero/Morrow/Cecil/Drabek, with Cecil likely the one to go. Do the Jays have enough depth to deal a guy of that status for a equaly good OF prospect?
If the Jays still had Marcum, id think, Go For It...... but now, it would really hurt us in the pitching department....... i mean in my opinion, Cardinals would likely even prefer a veteran like Marcum than these other guys, considering they wanna win now.

I'd do the trade. If you told me a Morrow for Rasmus swap 1 for 1, I would be delighted as a Jays fan.
We have the depth at that position to endure it, and we would be getting a five tool position player in centre field, a position we have no big league prospects coming up in. With the loss of Wells, it is a natural fit.

Re: Colby Rusmus deal? (new speculation)
cecil or drabek, not morrow though. morrow got ace like stuff.
i also was listening to the fan590, but the jays can always look for an upgrade in talent, but it's not a glaring need in the OF. when brett lawrie is already for 3B, bautista will slide to the OF. the jays already have 2 everyday players in Snider and Davis. having said this, i'm still up for the trade. Rasmus will replace Rivera this year and a great insurance if snider is still injured.

For Cecil? OMG hells yeah. In a heartbeat. For Drabek? Um, I guess that's an alright deal. For Morrow? No thanks.
That said, I really don't see the Jays landing Rasmus for Cecil, which leaves mne feeling ambivalent about the whole idea.

Re: Colby Rusmus deal? (new speculation)
They'd likely want Drabek/Morrow + Snider, and possibly more. Which isn't necessarily a terrible deal (23 year old centerfielders who can put up an OPS+ of 132 are pretty bloody rare), but Rasmus' strikeout rate and his BABIP-inflated numbers of a year ago worry me a tad...he'd still be valuable as a .245/.340/.480 guy down the road (assuming that his defense rebounds to 2009 levels), just not as valuable.

**** your asterisk.

I think it`s a moo point. Like number15 said, they prob want a vet pitcher and Marcum would of been a great fit in that deal. Rasmus would be awesome, but I think they would want too much.

Please don't be a typo, please don't be a typo.
And Rasmus for one of our starters isn't happening for a number of reasons already listed: not equivalent talent (if you're STL even Morrow isn't equivalent), STL would want more a established SP if they're selling out their future, after Marcum the Jays don't have a surplus, etc...

If the asking price is Morrow +, its not worth it.
Maybe by midseason Rasmus' stock will go down, and AA can buy low like he did for Yunel.

I wouldn't do Morrow straight up for Rasmus, these ideas for trading other teams' young stars just aren't realistic. You almost always have to vastly overpay for young controllable players, its just not worth it.

It also doesn't fit in the model the Cardinals like to follow of having veteran starting pitching. If they wanted to go younger, they're better off giving Lance Lynn a shot.

Really? I have very high hopes and a lot of faith in Morrow after watching him last year, but this would be very very hard to pass up. Imagine a year ago trying to get Rasmus for Morrow, they wouldn't even have laughed at you. To do this deal, if it were available, you're selling very high on Morrow to get a guy of Rasmus' calibre. Yes, there is a possibility Morrow's stock will continue to rise and make you feel like you sold your shares way too early, but I think if you polled the GMs on this one you'd find an easy majority would do the deal from Toronto's perspective.
Second point is dead on though. Maybe he goes for an already legitimately qualified star, but not for roughly equivalent young talent, those deals simply never happen. GMs always going to be more comfortable with the rising star they've developed and will want more than their worth to offset the risk of lesser known commodities. Closest you get to those sorts of deals are Wallace for Gose style where I think familiarity actually lessened trust in the player.

If it's for Cecil I'd bite but for any of Morrow, Drabek or JPA, I'd pass. Morrow could potentially be the ace of this staff for many years to come, we don't know the potentialy of Drabek yet so trading him this early could be something we live to regret and JPA if he learns how to run a game could potentially be a great catcher in the league and he has power potential . If the trade is for Cecil and you throw in Zach Stewart, I'd bite but nothing more than that.
Want: Trae Young, Michael Porter Jr., DeAndre Ayton, Jaren Jackson Jr, Marvin Bagley III, Mohamad Bamba, Shai Gilgeous- Alexander, Elie Okobo, Jevon Carter

I'm not sure this is true at all. Brandon Morrow had a 4.49 ERA and threw only 146 innings, i don't think those numbers accurately reflect what he can do and what he's capable of doing in the future. Unless other teams see him as a budding ace and would be willing to give up equivalent value for that, i'd hang on to him and sign him to an extension that buys out a FA year or two

+1. People really don't understand how lucky we got dealing for Morrow. This may turn out to be one of the most lopsided deals of the decade so far.
