Re: Draft Talk
Julio Jones putting up such sick combine numbers helps us BTW. He should jump into the top 10 probably and knock someone down to us.
For the OLB 40's, Martez Wilson had a 4.44 (!!) and Von Miller a 4.46. Impressive. Ayers ran a 4.8, which isn't a huge deal but only reaffirms me not wanting him

Iceness,
Of these four guys, does any one currently stand out to the Lions brass more than the others that your are aware of?
Are there any other names you hear popping up outside of these 4 who you hear linked to the Lions at this point?
I firmly believe there is one thing the Lions will not do: Draft Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith. Not with the 13th pick and not even if they trade back 10 or 12 spots.
In terms of talent alone, Smith would be a top 15 pick and in the crosshairs of the Lions' radar. Smith is big, fast and has excellent skills. However, he also has issues

Re: Draft Talk
^ If it's spelled corrrectly and makes sense, it's a quote.
LB Martez Wilson impressed me at the combine. Not just his 40 time, but he also has good hands and showed sound technique during the drills. I think he really helped his draft status.
I don't understand why Kelvin Sheppard and Quan Sturdivant didn't run the 40, but did postion drills.
Akeem Ayers was really underwhelming. Not only his 4.8 40, but he really didn't excel in the drills. He looked like he didn't know what he was doing. These are drills you should be practicing for weeks before the combine, if not while in college. There is no excuse for them to be new to you. I know a number of Lions fans want him, but everytime I watch him, I get more and more unimpressed with him.
I'm upset that Casey Matthews and Bruce Carter didn't work out. Maybe that's why the Lions set up a meeting with Carter in Allen Park.
Alot of the DL looked good, but none looked elite IMO. I wouldn't mind any in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, but I'm not high on them as early-mid first round talent. If we could trade down and grab someone, while adding another pick, I think we'd get the best value.

Re: Draft Talk
Carter still can't run, no surprise he didn't work out. He's less than 2 months off knee surgery.
Martez Wilson is a guy that I've seen as a sleeper for the Lions for awhile. I don't think he'll go that high but it's not unfathomable to go #13, and he won't be there in the 2nd. He's a guy who was up and down at Illinois, like their whole dang team. He actually reminds me quite a bit of Deandre Levy, only a little more compact.
Kelvin Sheppard is a guy I like more than most people do. Not a great athlete but a consummate football player, great instincts, quick reactions, textbook fundamentals. He has always had a knack for winding up where the football is and coming away with it. He should be there in the 3rd round for the Lions and I would like him as a SAM backer in Schwartz's D.
I know the Lions hit it off with Castonzo in Mobile and they also liked Brandon Harris quite a bit after meeting with him. I am not a Harris guy at all but there are some out there that love him. I just think back to the Ohio State game where he repeatedly couldn't stay with Dane Sanzebacher and got flattened when trying to tackle Brandon Saine, neither of whom are NFL talents.
FWIW it wouldn't surprise me from what I'm hearing that Prince Amukamara falls to the 20s.
I've never been an Akeem Ayers guy either. He's a guesser, not a reader, and today proved he doesn't have the athletic acumen to compensate. Rey Maualuga was the same way but at least he hits like a freight train, and the Bengals are quietly disappointed with his development, or rather lack thereof.

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Like who (by name)? You have peaked my interest. Give me 5 more names with proof (links?), and I will officially step off the Jimmy Smith bandwagon.

Re: Draft Talk
I can't.
Like its been said many times in this thread alone, nobody knows what will/won't happen on draft day until it happens.
Not sure why I even have to, but I'll explain it to you, he (Smith) is one of a couple guys I would be happy with us drafting.
But you are the one throwing around absolutes about Smith and Prince. And you are the one stating "many others opinions around the league" agree that the Lions will not pick Smith at 13. I am intrigued. Have this proof of "many others?"

Re: Draft Talk
FYI, Smith measures in at 6'2", 211 at combine
Rumor is (can't confirm right now) is that he put up 24 bench press reps.
One mock:

That's an old one. Glad you like citing Bleacher Report. In their UPDATED mock (from today), they have us getting Prince at #13. What??? I thought you said that was impossible. Weird....
