Corey Brewer bought out

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 11:31 pm

Jazz fans have any interest in him?

Personally I would have a huge interest in him. I wanted the Jazz to try and trade for him before the deadline. I think he would be a great young talent to pickup for a team who is in a somewhat rebuilding stage. He would be a good band-aid/insurance policy in case AK decides to leave (which I doubt) and honestly....I rather have him than Miles. I would love to see him here.

But as mentioned before, I doubt he has any interest in signing here and I doubt the Jazz want to go even further over the cap (they are still over the cap right? )

Well, I doubt the money is much of a factor where he goes. IF we promised him the starting SG spot and a guarantee of a nice contract next year, I'm sure we'd be in teh running. Now, I don't see us doing either, but, if we really wanted to snatch him up, I think we'd ahve some chips to play.

Yeah, if he changes his first name to Ronnie!

If Utah offers him a 4 or 5 year deal for $5 mil a year and he signs it without laughing, I'm good with the deal.

Celts, Spurs, Mavs and Thunder all interested and I'm sure Miami is in there as well. Good luck convincing him to sign with us over any of those teams....

Serious. No one gets a promise, especially not a guy so expendable he got bought out.

Jazz don't have to even talk to him. Just pick him up off of waivers. Thats it. If they want him they can get him if they want to. He will be picked up before he clears waivers by someone. He makes 3.7mil and thats about right.

I don't think the Jazz could claim him since they're over the cap and don't have a TPE that would fit his 3.7M contract.

They aren't putting him on the waivers... so they can't claim him.

Yeah, a buy out is different. He gets to keep some of his NY contract and gets to add on with a new one from a new team of his choice.

As far as I can tell a buyout is a special type of waive. Part of the buyout involves waiving the player.

Yeah, he's a Jazz type player if ever there was one. Just not sure if he's healthy.

You can claim someone off waivers if you have a TPE big enough for their contract OR if they're signed to a minimum contract. Rule of thumb: you can always get a player for the vet minimum.
