Very surprising considering the fragile health of Lewis and Howard.

I agree. Surprising move... How many years were left on his contract? I wish Blatche was gone...

^^^

He is a free agent this year (2011), so it's not that shocking in that sense. Frankly, it won't make a bit of difference either way. If the Wiz save a few bucks and he gets on a team where he can play more and audition for a job, it's fine by me.

Not shocked, he is a slashing SF and not a good fit for Flips shooting system.

Wow... dunno what to say really... If anything, I would've kept him atleast till the end of this year, since he always plays like he gives a crap... And I loved the fact that he always played within his himself, knowing his limitations...

Might also be a good will gesture. Thornton might catch on with a playoff team, helping him sign somewhere next year. He sure wasn't in the Wizards future. If so, it's a small gesture, but something that could contribute to enhancing the team's reputation among players around the league. I still feel like the Arenas episode hurt that reputation, and offsetting it isn't a bad thing.

Isn't today the deadline to latch onto a team if you're going to be on the playoff roster?

I hope Thornton has already coordinated a landing onto a new team.

I guess that's where Mo Evans comes in. It's also possible they could be looking at some D-Leaugue prospects.

Why-bother, they will use Evans. If I were running the team I'd certainly take a look at Larry Owens just because the Spurs took a look at him :D DeShawn Sims is another guy I'd take a look at.

Supposedly he has, according to a tweet from some guy at espn.

Not all that surprised. He was languishing on the bench. Glad the team was able to oblige him. Hope he catches on somewhere else and lands that contract he was looking for.

Yeah, that's how I look at it. I'm not sure why he couldn't adjust, because he showed even in college that he's got range. But every time he caught the ball on the perimeter facing the basket, it was clear he wanted to drive to the basket. He'd automatically fake the jumper and try to drive - instead of simply catch and shoot.

I'm hoping they're doing this to open a roster spot rather than just to save a little money.

Al Thorton > Mo Evans

It's not like it really matters though.

I'm disappointed to see Al go because he was a gamer and brought it night in and night out. However, if he had no future with the team I guess it's best for both parties to split ways. I'm rooting for him and hope he earns a fair contract because he deserves one.

His roster spot better be filled with a hungry young player with a good basketball IQ. Please Ernie, no more dumbasses on this roster.
