Al Thornton Waived by Washington Wizards

"The Washington Wizards have waived Al Thornton, according to press release. Plenty of teams will show interest in the former lottery pick."

I actually liked him when he was here - Very athletic in getting to the hoop. Not sure if I remember how good (or bad) his jump shot was. Seems like he would be a nice get at SF UNLESS our front office is confident that they will be able to get an all-star (or at least "good") SF during the off-season.

Update: Looks like he is likely going to Golden State - Too bad if true, because I feel like we needed a SF more than them.

I still like Al, I enjoyed him while he was a Clipper. I did notice that he wasn't getting time with the Wizards. I thought Al would turn out to be something special, turns out I'm wrong. I think his talents will be limited because of his basketball IQ. It's going to be weird that he's a Warrior.

Would have been more interesting in the Nelly days. I'd like too see him end up in Atlanta one day. He always seemed to have big games playing in front of his friends and family.

i overrated him when he was on the clips but the fact is that he's an inefficient jump shooter with some hops. for every exciting put-back, he puts up a bad shot off the dribble if his defender gives him any space at all. and by all accounts, sterling hates the guy so i doubt he would ever come back.

basically an all-star physical talent with a terrible feel for the game and he's not a good enough defender to make up for his deficiencies on offense. the best case scenario is that he becomes a decent spark plug off the bench for 15-20 minutes a night.

This is the same al thorton who was essentially a black hole when he was on the clips right? Aside from shooting alot of mid-range jumpers he didn't really do much else. Not sure why you guys would want him back, i'd rather have gomes who at least won't black hole the ball, and can shoot some 3's too at least.

I think you can tell by my avatar what my thoughts are on Big Al. I'd love to see him come back but I know that's not going to happen. Gomes has his spot now and is actually better. Al's just too small and skinny to defend well in the NBA. I love his jumper and his dunks though. For those calling him a black hole, remember how bad we were, there was never any ball movement and he was pretty much our best offensive weapon. (Before Kaman and EJ stepped it up.) Its not his fault he was on a terrible team.

I think his future is as an instant scorer off the bench. Maybe a Terry Teagle type.

I would want him back. Right now, he's better than any of our small forwards.
