Kinda early but who would you like to be our coach nxt yr

Post#1 » by Javidad » Wed Mar 2, 2011 1:39 am

Title kinda explains it all. I really doubt Westphal stays and finishes out his contract as he is more or less universally hated by fans and is a large part of why this team regressed this year.

Personally I'm in favor of trying to get Nate McMilan to coach. He has shown that he can coach up a young team and be hard-nosed when he needs to be.

What do you guys think?

Westphal will and should be the coach next year. It's not his fault that he has a roster full of inexperienced, undisciplined kids.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

QFT

I mean sure if we could get a Sloan or legit top Coach do it, but don't fire him just to get some unproven new coach.

The inexperienced part, I completely agree with.

Undisiplined, I don't agree with at all. That's his job. His job is to control these guys and keep them professional on (Tyreke's isos) and off (Cousins) the court.

That said, I won't be upset if he stays.

If a player keeps making the same mistakes that EVERYONE knows are wrong, how much blame can you put on the player before you start holding the coach accountable?

Bad isos from Tyreke - we've seen a ton of these this season.

Bad shots from Sammy D -- consistently shooting jumpers from 20+ feet away. Really?

Bad lineups -- Luther Head, nuff said.

Bad substitutions -- why take guys out when they're doing good? His rotations are SO random.

With that said, he probably will still be the coach next year simply because they extended him and the Maloofs are strapped on cash (this is an assumption based on the arena situation and the selling of their beer distributorship).

I would really like to see Nate McMillan as well (but Portland's probably not gonna let him go), as well as Jerry Sloan (not sure if his style will fit in with some of our young players) who can come in and establish a system, or even giving Mario Ellie a shot and bringing in Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, and Bobby Jackson to tutor and coach our young guys.

Imagine if Webber and Vlade were able to knock some sense into Cousins and teach him to play smart. He'd be CWebb 2.0!

No idea who, but I sure as hell know I don't want it to be Paul Westphal... we ain't gonna go nowhere with this guy, and if people can't see it after a season and a half they're just about blind(no offence intended)

I hate to say it but it aint the coach. Westphal has had a lot of success with better teams. Idc if we have popovich or larry brown or whoever the bottom line is we are young and inexperienced. I say let westphaul grow with this team instead of bringing in a new coach every year or two. Although I do agree getting rid of addelman was rediculous.

To be honest, I would be fine if Westphal finishes his contract with the Kings. I really think with a healthy Kings team, you wouldn't see as much of 'musical chair' substitutions he usually does. But he still has a couple of flaws that I simply don't like, flaws we as fans know and cringe about.

Shaky relations between star player and coach, no matter who is right, means one thing. Coach gotta go! So many other reasons for it as well, but that's the main one right now.

What's his excuse everywhere else he's been outside of walking into a pre-built situation in Phoenix? Dudes an alright coach, but not for this team, not for this group of players and especially not for Cousins.

It sucks because we really DO need stability, but I really don't know how you can watch this season and say Westphal is a good coach. At the very most, he is average. I'd definitely take McMillan over him. He'd be absolutely perfect. Slow pace (which I'm in favor of), defensive minded, and has experience building a young team. He also was an assistant at the Olympics.

But like someone said, highly doubtful he's available.

I meant phoenix. I feel like we gotta stop blaming the coach. Look at boston 06-07 the were a 24 win team the next season they win like 60 games cause they get 3 hall of famers and all of a sudden doc rivers is considered a great coach. Every bad team blames the coach like he's the one losing games. I'm not saying westphaul is a great coach, I'm just saying you cant blame him for a poor season.

This is really a situation were if the Kings are in SAC next year its more than likely we keep PW simply because he is cheap & the Maloofs have been financially cutting corners the past several years .

If the Kings move it is very likely they fire him IMO simply because he is not that great of a coach overall & will use a new coach as a way of marketing the team in another season if the coach is well known enough ala JERRY SLOAN .

If the KINGS stay in SAC I am fine with keeping PW 1 more year unless we can get SLOAN .
That said if he stays in SAC 1 more season & cannot produce at least a .500 record I say fire him at the end of next season & then we better get a real coach .

If we fire a coach because he doesn't get along with Cousins, then we'll have a new coach every year. That's not the solution.

Well, at some point you find that out an make the decision on where to head from there. Bottom line, there is HISTORY with Westphal and problem players, and while not super extensive, it's not a good one. I'd take that as a sign that maybe he isn't the most qualified to "handle" them, kind of like a mark on one's resume so to speak.

If you think he's the right coach for the team that's fine. However, problem player issues aside, I've seen enough this season from a purely a coaching standpoint that leads me to believe he's a decent but average coach, and not the right one for this team if they ever intend on getting the most out of the players they have.

I sincerely doubt Sloan is going to want to coach anymore simply because his legacy is Utah period. I am not saying PW is a bad coach but he is a bad coach for inexperienced players. He is not able to develop talent and this is causing him to play musical chair with the starting line up every game. He doesnt know how to deal with his players in stroking their ego when they make mistakes and and benches them for the most pointless reasons.

I don't want an inexperienced coach either but I'm sure there are some experienced coaches out there who we can find/steal.
