Patriots Draft Thread-Pats take Solder

Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Tue Mar 1, 2011 9:49 pm

Combine was this past week. I haven't paid as much attention as I did in years past. But even with all this Labor bullcrap, there will definitely be a draft this April, and we are stacked with picks.

1st Round – #17 (Oaklands) Nate Solder OL Colorado

1st Round – #28 TRADED TO NO, FOR 2012 FIRST AND 2011 SECOND #56 overall

2nd Round – #33 (Carolinas) - Ras-I Dowling CB Virginia
2nd Round - #56 (New Orleans) - Shane Vareen RB California

3rd Round - #73 Stevan Ridley RB LSU
3rd Round - #74 Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas

5th Round - #138 (Houston) - Marcus Cannon OL TCU
5th Round - #159

6th Round- #193

We also picked up Oaklands second rounder to give us two 2's next year to go along with our two 1's.

So, who ya want?

Honestly, I know it's not Belichick's style, but I think we should move up this year to get a legit pass rusher.

Get Von Miller somehow.

And I want the Pats to get Andy Dalton in the 3rd or 4th. Is that crazy?

I would like to see us focus on our offensive line and grab a running back early. Maybe a rush olb if one is available.

How about Ryan Kerrigan at 17, Gabe Carimi at 28, Cameron Heyward at 33, Clint Boling at 60, DeMarco Murray and Terrence Tolliver in the 3rd, and Mark Herzlich in the 4th?

Kerrigan is getting some negative pub because of some apparent lack of athleticism. Bottom line is he is productive and works his tail off. At the combine, Solder handled him in their early matchups, then Kerrigan learned from his mistakes and handled Solder. That's some quick adjustment, and shows his intelligence.

Carimi is considered the top run blocking tackle in the draft. What's up with Light? I don't know, but you move Vollmer over and plug Carimi into his spot.

Heyward-had apparent issues with consistency. However, he comes through in some big games, and is a 5 technique with a load of potential.

Boling-A versatile lineman who can be plugged into Neal's vacant spot.

Murray/Tolliver-skills position guys who offer us pass catching out of the back field and a BIG downfield threat who can stretch the field.

Herzlich-he projects more as an ILB because of his skill set, but was an OLB in college, and if he comes back to his former glory, could be an awe inspiring middle round pick.

I don't think Cam's going to last until pick 33. I like JJ Watts at 17

Patriots had a two day with Locker, now Mallett. This is interesting. Of course Mallett's a (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and Belichick will realize that as soon as he opens his mouth.

I am really high on him to if they can get him without trading up. He apparently isn't the "home run" guy teams seem to look for but NE needs a grinder and a guy who can pass block. I think a Barry Sanders type guy would drive Bill nuts I think he wants Corey Dillion sans the **** attitude.

It is going to be real tough for Bill not to take a DE/OLB with that first pick.

A 3-4 DE,OLB, and oline help and this would be a good draft. I really hope (however unlikely) that BB trades 17 and 28/33 for 5 to have a legit shot at a guy like Green or Peterson, One star> 2 good players

What I want to happen:
17- Anthony Costanzo
28- Mark Ingram
33- Trade for 2012 first round pick

What will happen:
17-Trade Back
28-Trade Back
33-Trade Back

My opinion on what I want to happen has changed a lot. I remember not wanting Ingram and kind of thinking it was silly to take him early after the year LawFirm had, but I've flip-flopped on that. If he's sitting there at 28, I'd love to see the pats snatch him up. At 33, I wanted to keep this pick and take the best player available that has slipped out of the first round. But now I think it'd be smart if we could snatch a first rounder next year, do it. As for 17, I think if Costanzo is there that'd be a perfect guy to take. Who knows what will go on with Light and Mankins contract talks and Neal just retired, so a lineman would make sense.

Agreed.

I really like Peter King's idea of grabbing Mike Pouncey with one of the 1sts and putting him on the outside until he's ready or (needed) to start at Center. I guess he's not the snapper his twin brother is yet but still, seeing Maurkice start for the Steelers right away and get to the pro bowl as a rookie's def a good sign. Idk how much the Urban Meyer-Belichick connection and FLA's pro offense actually come into play but it sure sounds good.

With the other 1st either grab a OLB/DE if the values there, or Mark Ingram if he's still around. The Jake Locker scenario is interesting, I wouldn't mind a ballsy pick like that from Belichick if he thinks the kids legit.

Rumors swirling about moving up. First Greg Bedard from the Globe said they're talking with the browns about 6.

Who knows, there's been rumors of us moving way up before then it gets to the time and not only do we not trade up, we don't even stay where we are and end up trading back.

Adam Schefter‎ Any proposed Cowboys-Patriots trade will not happen. Yet there are any number of teams interested in moving back, including Dallas.

We're on the clock!

Lots of juicy names that dropped. Jordan, Bowers and Akumara, wonder what we will do.
