AdamSchefter Keep in mind that AJ Hawk had $10.5 million escalator, so Packers wanted to clear it from their books. New deal still could be in line now.

Hope so. He's no superstar but losing a captain is never good, especially after winning the Super Bowl.

packers Green Bay Packers
Packers release LB A.J. Hawk, TE Donald Lee & S Derrick Martin. Hawk decision "the business side," said GM Thompson: http://pckrs.com/wdtt

Maybe update the thread title.

Glad to see Donald Lee gone btw.

Who knows if they had any negotiations but if Hawk wasn't willing to compromise on his end then that's pretty stupid on his part.

It does feel pretty **** to have to cut someone who was a starter on a team that just won the Super Bowl.

TT says they are still hoping to sign Hawk.

http://www.tweetdeck.com/twitter/TomSilverstein/~XYSOj

Thompson on Hawk: “With A.J., the business side of the game is driving this decision. We’re hopeful that we can continue to work with A.J. to have him be a part of our team in the future.”

Well I mean here are his choices if he wants money:

1. The Packers take the 10.5 million and keep him for his final year.

2. He re-signs with no open market. I assume the Packers' extension offer was nice but not great given that he isn't THAT good.

3. He waits for the 10.5, they say no, and he at least can test the FA waters.

I'm guess I'm thinking a bit selfishly in that I want would like him on the team next year. We all saw this year that nothing is more important in a 3-4 defense than having good depth at LB.

Listened to Wilde on the radio saying that the Packers are still trying to work a deal with A.J. He also said that he was going to call Hawk after being on the radio. Hopefully he'll drop by an give us the scoop.

I wouldn't mind him back for cheap but I wouldn't be upset if they look at other options.

Silverstein thinks 70/30 a deal will be worked out. Indicated TT's comments on Martin and Lee made it seem they weren't looking to bring them back.

AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
A.J. Hawk's brother-in-law weighs in. RT @BQ9: What a great way to repay the captain of your defense who helped you win a super bowl.

Quinn sounds like one of Favre's disgruntled (meth head) relatives.

Packers' Wednesday moves saved $13.55 million: Hawk - $10.5M, Lee - $2.2M, Martin - $850K. http://bit.ly/foVzHS

Not that I needed any further confirmation but Brady Quinn is an idiot, never liked him one bit.
