Simply put: If he could help us to slow down Tony Parker, Russell Westbrook, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, or Chris Paul, it's worth it to me ... I think he can.

Defensively, Corey Brewer would be our best PG defender ... right now (even at 6'8)!

Nuff said.

playing the 1 spot in the tri requires one be able to SHOOT, even if its mid-range game, doesn't have to be 3's, Brewer isn't that and would destroy the spacing needed to the tri to form, we would be playing 4 on 5 on O if he was on the court.

I never said he'd play PG (on offense). I said he would be our best defender of PGs on defense (big difference).

You don't have to play PG to guard the opposing team's PG.

If he were on this team, he'd instantly become our best PG defender. That fact (as I see it to be), coupled with the fact that he can guard twos and threes, would make him an excellent pickup (even with the presence of Brown, Artest, Blake, Ebanks, Barnes, and Walton).

^^^I know that but it doent matter where he plays, it'll still be 4 on 5 on O....

That 4 on 5 comment is pretty overrated. Brewer is not a schmuck like Sefolosha on offense. His TS% has been quite steady over the seasons and playing on a stacked team could only help matters. If he could make post passes and run on transition he'd be filling his boots on offense with that alone.

^Agreed.

4 on 5 is a weak argument with Brewer.

Brewer isn't all world on offense but he can grow up a lot on offense in a situation where his offensive role is more defined (reference Bruce bowen and Trevor Ariza).

Hell, even if he never improves on offense from his current level, he still has one discernible skill that is elite. That skill [defense] is tremendous enough for me to respect what he brings to the table as a an overall ball player, regardless of his offensive weaknesses [reference Dennis Rodman and Thabo Sefolosha].

this what I was thinking.....but I would sign him just so teams like SA/Dall doesn't, he'll be just one more guy they could throw at Kobe.

I wanted Murphy or any players that could contribute now. but since hes going to the Celtics and there's no more available players out there that could help us now. I'm OK with signing Brewer. But, if we do this move it'll be entirely "for the future" move only. Can he play the 1 spot? no he sucks on offense esp on three point shooting period.

Woj and Stein are reporting that Brewer is signing with the Mavs.

Surprising. I really want to take a chance on him.

(TylersLakers just came ;) )

YESSSSS!!! Sign him now!!

I'd put him ahead of Brown and Barnes in the rotation. This guy is active on defense, he's a good slasher and he can finish on the break.

I've wanted him ever since the first year of the back-to-back Champion Florida Gators. Sign him now!

I hoped Mitch would have a laser flashed into his head filled with Corey Brewer and we could intercept Dallas and take Brewer to the starting line-up.

Damn, okay, I'll wake up. :( Very sad right now.

He is getting a 3 year deal for about 7 million. Lakers would have only offered a deal for the rest of the season I bet.

I say there is no one left out there worth signing. Lakers could have been one player deeper. Guess the money was not there to offer. Joe Smith and Theo Ratiff could have been cut to put a few bucks for a player. Well that I bet would not happen.

So Butler may be free when he comes back? Any chance on us picking up "Tuff Juice" for another go round?

Dall wouldn't release him if he comes back and why would they? Also March 1st was the deadline for players to be released and qualify for playoffs if they sign onto another team.

Kind of sad that Brewer is on the radar when you have guys like Brown, Barnes and Artest on the roster. Those guys should be more than enough.
