Re: artest>kobe at the TRI
Kobe does tend to go away from the offense and take forced shots. Especially when the other team goes on some sort of a run and the crowd gets going he tries to force things to silence it and most of the time that causes us to go into a bigger hole

Yeah Skyhook, like I said its not always the # of shots as much as shot selection. I think Phil is trying to break him from the shoot 1st mentality. He finally has teammates he can trust. The Skyhook wrote:Anklebreaker702 wrote:LAKESHOW wrote:is there any truth to phils statement? or is what he sayin totally false?
Again, you have to understand Phil. I have been saying all year long guys watch the games with their hearts instead of their eyes but I stopped elaborating on it because of comments like "well we won so thats all i care about"
Truthfully speaking that's the attitude of teams that come in 2nd place & below. Championship teams try to fix & tweak even while winning.
Phil's statement is to get Kobe to run the offense & make the correct choices. It's not always about him jacking shots. Its usually about shot selection & choosing to take tough contested shots with someone else open. Last night he had to yell at Kobe in the 1st quarter "GET THE BALL INSIDE"! PJ understands that's the formula to another chip but Kobe is so talented plus the talent that's around him we get away with it often. With less than 20 to go in the regular season don't be surprised to see Phil start cracking the whip more.
+1 Good post AB. As good as Kobe is I'm not too high on him taking as much shots as he does when we have 2 7 footers that take less shots than he does some nights. So if Phil has to use the media to remind Kobe of how things need to be done I'm all for it.
If he gets in his head the mentality Michael Jordan had in his 2nd tenure with the Bulls he would be a more effective assassin. I remember he use to have like 15 points going into the 4th quarter in close games next minute you'd look up he'd have 35 if he needed to take over & Kobe has more weapons than he did (except outside shooting).
Quoting his career #'s accomplishments & achievements doesn't mean there's not room for improvement.

I AM A HUGE KOBE FAN
...but i would agree with phil here, kobe DOES NOT consistently play within the teams offense.
It is so frustrating to watch sometimes, he will take impossible shots and misss them MOST OF THE TIME and totally ruin the offensive flow of the game for the rest of the team and completely throw away a postition. If bad shots missed were a stat like turnovers - kobe would be number one in them guaranteed.
He needs to control himself, we dont wanna see game 7 kobe again. Game 7 kobe sucks.

well at least i see shaw trying to yell or talk to kobe on time outs.
How's this for an almost unbelievable Laker trivia: The Lakers will miss the playoffs this year for the 3rd time since 1976.
Just 3 times in almost 40 years!!!!

Makes sense. Shaw was a very good systems guy. He always bought into it. That's probably why he's a coach now.

He really does go into a chucking mode far too often. He doesn't have the 05-06 ability to do that and come out on top. It's bizarre even considering that there are very few guys that can actually guard the Laker big men.
For example tonight. Gasol against Diaw should be a non-stop frenzy of giving the taller Gasol the ball to create from the post.
