Really what do you think it will take to sign him, do we have any kind of rights for him going into the offseason ?

I don't know if numbers are the important thing, more so the fact that if needed he can produce them. He's shown decent off the ball movement and spot shooting ability. Basically I see him as filling Beno's role on the team and in terms of shooting/scoring he'll be a major upgrade. Maybe even defensively too, we'll see.
SacTownKings4Life wrote:I think we all still need to see how well he fits when Tyreke comes back. In theory, Thornton's shooting ability is the perfect fit next to Evans. However, and I'm not sure if anybody's taken the time to pay attention to this, he needs to have the ball in his hands to create his shot. He dribbles a lot. Likewise, Tyreke needs the ball in HIS hands a lot to be effective as well. He dribbles a lot too. Can these two ball dominant players coexist together? Thornton can shoot the lights out. Will Tyreke recognize this and feed him when he's hot, or will he attempt to regain control of "his team" and be the main guy again? And if the latter should occur, would Thornton be content to play second fiddle to Evans after clearly proving himself to be a potential top scorer for this team? Essentially, he's the new Kevin Martin role.
Just something to think about. I mean yeah, of course i'd like to resign him if he keeps up this level of production. I just hope it can actually work out. But then again, I also hope we don't get outbid for him if he does continue producing. Hopefully nobody else is paying attention to him because nobody watches our games.
As someone who has watched every game that Thornton has played over the last 2 seasons, I guarantee you that he can be very effective playing off of the ball. He is excellent moving without the ball and can knock down the weakside 3. His usage rate is so high because he was playing the majority of his minutes with Jarret Jack, Willie Green, Jason Smith, and DJ Mbenga. If he didn't have the ball in his hands, we were just as likely to have a shot clock violation as to score.
His issues in New Orleans had nothing to do with on court production. In fact, the Hornets were 13-1 in games that he played at least 23 minutes. And he very effectively played 3rd banana to West and Paul.

What were his issues then?

Defense. Monty Williams benched him due to his perceived lack of defensive tenacity.
