Great overall game for Barnes. He got it going early getting in the paint, finishing with ease. People have criticized that aspect of his game so it was good to see. He would have started 4-4 but a nice looking three just missed. UNC has some explosive players on offense so some nights they're forced to feed the hot hand. He played his usual great D, spaced the floor well and didn't force any bad shots. FSU leads the nation in defensive FG% so I wasn't expecting great numbers. They are holding teams to 36% on the year.

He was forced into a couple turnovers but that'll happen when you have the ball at the end of the shot clock getting double teamed. When his team needed him the most, down by one with 10 seconds left they called an iso for the freshman. He calmly buried the three with a few seconds left to win by 2. He finished 6-10 with 18 points, 4 boards and added a key steal & block. Dicky V summed it up well when he said "He just looks like a player". That's exactly what Barnes needed with the game on ESPN. HUGE onions that he's shown all year.

Thx for the recap! I missed the game tonight because I was...watching American Idol...lol yea I know, don't ask. Can't believe he's done it again. Can't wait to see the duke game on sat, it's payback time!!

Please tell me you at least were spending quality time with your girlfriend.

hahahha that was also my first reaction. "oh. he must be with his girl."

Brendan Davies was 11-7 in 24 mintues for BYU. Perhaps a second round pick down the line in a few years. But we don't want a person of such character.

What kind of college kid dares have sex with his girlfriend. Way to go Mormons!!

In case some of you did not hear, it was just disclosed that Davies was kicked out of BYU for breaking the honor code -- he had premarital sex with his girlfriend

BYU Honor Code

Be honest
Live a chaste and virtuous life
Obey the law and all campus policies
Use clean language
Respect others
Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, and substance abuse
Participate regularly in church services
Observe the Dress and Grooming Standards
Encourage others in their commitment to comply with the Honor Code

A virtuous life means no porn, pre-marital sex. How can we expect such a player to be prepared for the NBA?

1 Kyrie Irving (assume not available)
2 Perry Jones
3 Terrence Jones (I prefer drafting him, but concern about his quickness, he will play the point)
4 Enes Kanter (I prefer not to draft a PF size C, we got Ed Davis already)
5 Kemba Walker (This would be a 8th-10th pick)
-- Trade down for players below --
6 Alec Burks (This would be a 15th-20th pick, he will play the point)

Best scenario is to trade down to draft both Walker and Burks if Irving is not available.
Bargnani/Ajinca
Amir/Davis (plays some C)
JJ/Kleiza (plays some PF)
DeRozan (plays some SF)/Burks (plays PG)
Walker/Bayless (plays SG)/Calderon

yeah at the beginning of the year I was hoping Marshall would declare early so we could steal him with the Miami pick, no way that happens now. His court vision is superb.

Wednesday's game-winning 3 was the third in ACC play for Harrison Barnes, who again clinched a Tar Heel victory.

Notable Harrison Barnes 3-Pointers

Date.......Opponent....Time....Score
March 2...at FSU..........0:03.....UNC down 1
Jan. 26....at Miami.......0:11.....Tied
Jan. 13.....Va. Tech......1:34.....UNC up by 1

Its great that Barnes is starting to play well now. It adds another player to the pool who would be a good/great pick for the draft. I was always under the impression we wouldnt be able to get kyrie unless we win the lotto. With more players looking a lot more viable & promising, the better things will be.

Barnes has moved up on my raptor draft board now.

Kyrie
Perry Jones
H. Barnes
T.Jones.

Barnes is now as high as perry is because of how much this thread has soured me on prospects of him playing SF for us. Hopefully that changes in workouts...

I would put Barnes in 2nd on the board behind Irving for the Raptors... I think when it comes time for the draft - if Barnes declares - GMs will seriously consider taking him with the #1 pick, especially after workouts.

After seeing that shot for game winner by barnes, the kid is the truth. Also am calling it from now, nolan smith will be the steal of the draft. If everyone is paying attn for Kyrie, then they have to be seeing what his senior replacement is doing. I have full confidence in his ability to be a lead gaurd. His workouts are gonna make him fly up the chart.

My board for the Raptors

Kyrie Irving
Terrence Jones
Harrison Barnes
Derrick Williams
Jared Sullinger
Perry Jones
Enes Kanter
Jonas Valanciunas
Kemba Walker
Brandon Knight

I am obviously not a Perry Jones believer. All these guys have "potential" but I think Perry Jones has the least likelihood of realizing that potential.

Barnes really needed this game to consider declaring. Hopefully he has a decent but not amazing tourney so that he is available when the Raptors pick. My concern now is that his tourney is too good and Barnes goes #2.

Glad to see Barnes keep putting on a show. I'm calling it now, if Barnes falls out of the top 3 then someone is getting a STEAL. BTW, Barnes @ 13 is the most laughable thing I've heard in a long time, what a joke.

Barnes is my 2nd pick if Irving is off the board. Glad I didn't jump off the bandwagon and kept him in my top 5.

Barnes is like DeRozan, so I am not surprised if he is picked around 9-13.
The question for us is, do we need another DeRozan on the team? Can he play off the ball with DeRozan having more touches?

I'd put money on the fact that Barnes won't make it to #9. His skills are much more polished than Demar's at USC and the guy is winning games for UNC. I'd be shocked if he fell out of the top 5 or 6.

And yes, Barnes has been mostly playing off-the-ball and that's where he has been most effective. They've put him in ISO's at the end of games where he has also been pretty good.

I think he and Demar make a very nice 2/3 combo. Derozan is the guy to attack the rim relentlessly, get to the line and hit mid range shots while playing average D and being an average rebounder (he could get better but that's where i see him in the near future). Barnes on the other hand can hit the long ball, is a great defender and very good rebounder. Basically, if Demar continues getting better with the long ball and Barnes keeps getting better in ISO situations we'd have our 2/3 set for the next 10 years.

Hey
Can someone help me out for positions. It seems a lot of players are listed as either PF's of SF's. What are the following players?:

Perry Jones: PF or SF
Derrick Williams: PF or SF
Terrence Jones: PF or SF
Jonas Valanciunas: C or PF

...or, what are they projected to play in the NBA?

I don't think Barnes is a great defender, he will be very similar to DeRozan on D, promising, but not elite (or just above average). If we are drafting him, most likely we will trade Bargnani to mask their defense, and similar to how we build around VC and T-Mac. However, I don't see neither of them better than VC nor T-Mac.
