Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 3
Sunny, why doesn't Williams get more field goal attempts per game? It seems quite low for a player of his skills and his outside shooting percentage (although he gets to the line alot) Is he just generally passive and looks to score in flow and not try to take over?
I am only looking at the stat line - does it seem that way from your "eyes".

Would anyone do this kind of deal? Bayless/Bosh TPE for Maggette and their pick if Barnes is available. If we take Kyrie with our pick and Barnes with the Bucks pick....
Kyrie Irving
DeMar DeRozan
Harrison Barnes
Ed Davis
Andrea Bargnani
I wonder if Milwaukee would do that.

a few reasons
- most of his points come on FT's
- arizona does not really have a pg. when teams triple team him, its hard for him to get the ball.
- Sean Miller basketball. he doesnt need to take a million shots. There is a reason why he is the most efficient player in the ncaa. He does what helps his team the most, not what helps his stats.

Chad Ford has his highest risers and sliders for the NBA draft.
Is there any link or information regarding the historical trend of these drops and how it impacts their pro careers?
Im not talking about workout wonders like Joe Alexander.

Sometimes a player is too unselfish however such that it hurts the team. That does not seem to be your view on Williams then. That he could be a little more active in looking for his shot? Or that he won't be able to generate enough scoring looks to be more then a good role player (or lose alot of his efficiency) at the next level.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 3
Can anyone give me the report on Barnes' personality/character at this point? will he be a great team mate in the nba? where would you rate his leadership potential?
It's not the be all and end all but you need to add winning leaders. that can be done with veterans but ideally you want a star leader. Irving seems to have this quality or he wouldn't be ranked #1 while missing most of the season. from the little i've seen from Barnes, there is a quiet intensity, and a coachable and likable, guarded beta-type. sound about right?
do we need an alpha dog from this draft? leadership is important but it's looking unlikely we get a true lead guy from this draft. that necessitates getting a great system guy that will buy in, get along, and be productive.

Barnes, Irving, Williams are all A++++++ in terms of everything off the court.
some of the other top guys like T Jones are not.

Since when does Pac-10 have games on ESPN Networks? Unfortunately, its not the Arizona game.

This is such a PooPoo draft class!! If we don't get the #1 pick, then i'd look to trade our pick, one of DD or Davis and Bargs for Irving! I'd also take back a bad contract too.
DD/Davis
Bargs
Our Pick
FOR
Irving
Bad contract

lol, I don't see that trade flying with any team that gets a top 1-2 pick. Neither DD/Davis nor bargs can fetch a number one pick. Plus, B.C isn't moving neither of the three. At least not yet.

^^ I like kyrie as much as anyone else, but if we can't get him to add to the core theres no point on breaking up your core for him. Its not a knock on him just who are you going to put around him. We wouldn't win 20 games for like the next 3 yrs.
I could understand moving say ed davis and our pick or summin, but your talking about stripping the team down even further than it already has.

Re: Harrison Barnes?
Dr Mufasa wrote:What makes Harrison Barnes' upside? Not athleticism. Not on ball skills. What will he do better than anyone else in the NBA? Convince me with that because I'm not seeing it. I'm not seeing what's in his toolkit that will make him a star. Maybe the HS scouters were wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. BJ Mullens was ranked the #1 prospect his year. Out of HS Barnes was expected to be a great on ball threat. Ball in his hands, great first step combined with size, superior court vision. He has none of that. They screwed up.
That Insider article Czar85 posted is pretty skeptical about Barnes improvement. They analyze his PER progression and conclude his progress may be more a factor of a point guard change at UNC rather than improvement in Barnes' game. Those who read it will likely be more inclined not to get caught smoking the hype pipe until they see more from him.
Some might suggest that Barnes is a better player now than he was several weeks ago; however, that assumption is debatable. In the first seven ACC games, alternating between Drew and Marshall, Barnes was connecting on 31.4 percent of 2-point field goals and 40 percent of 3-pointers.
Since the Florida State game in early February (the game after Drew's announcement), Barnes' 2-point field goal percentage has skyrocketed to 49.3 percent, a clear indication of UNC pushing the pace more effectively and efficiently to get unchallenged shots near the hoop. However, his 3-point percentage has dropped (27.6 percent). And although Barnes' long-range touch saved UNC against Florida State on Wednesday night, the freshman continues to attempt an overabundance of 3s. The wing has taken 110 3s in 2011 and is connecting on only .86 points per shot.
The sign might be a bad one if fatigue is a cause. Barnes' game is a cavalcade of either spot-up or one-dribble jumpers (very rarely does he drive to the rim) from deep, taking 153 shots at least 17 feet from the basket.
2019 will never be forgotten because FLAGS FLY FOREVER

From that vid, it looks like Kanter doesn't get much lift and doesn't have the best hands. Then again it's only one vid.
