3) Donatas Motiejunas | Benetton Treviso | 1990

You’d think being considered a top-10 prospect would make Donatas Moteijunas the king of Lithuanian basketball, but alas, he’s not even the best Lithuanian center prospect this year. But that isn’t to say that Motiejunas isn’t still a great prospect — he’s putting up a very solid 12 points and 4 boards a game this season in the Italian League for Andrea Bargnani’s old team, who also happens to be the player Motiejunas is often compared to.

Any player willing to play Centre like a Centre is supposed to play is good enough for me, whether or not the player is American.

Its time to move him to spain, italy or greece next year because in Lithuanian league he cant improve his game anymore,he overgrowed them last year already when he was 17.

I've heard him called Andris Biedrins with better skills, but I'm not sure about that. I think his prototype is going to be the young Zydrunas Ilguaskus who could run the court with any forward and had lots of ups - until he suffered those debilitating foot injuries. I remember seeing Big Z as a second year player, thinking he could be a superb two way player and a nightmare to guard. Valanciunas has also been called the best European big man since Pau Gasol (you have to imagine Pau when he was a rookie big man).

I'm not paying much mind to Euroleague stats for JV, they can be as misleading as college stats for players like Fredette or whatev. I care about his prospect package

And I'm not that impressed. I see a skinny 7 footer who won't have above average NBA athleticism, who is raw offensively and prone to fouls. In Europe he can get away with rebounding on energy and finishing at the rim. In the NBA playing like that will make you a role player.

I dunno, to me JV just seems like the one guy projected top 6 who could be a complete swingandamiss. Bombing on top 5 picks brutalizes franchies.

I'd take Vesely over him just because I know this guy will have good NBA athleticism.

I tend to agree. The key is accurately assessing how their game will translate to NBA basketball and with European players its very hard to tell. The game is just so different over there and the talent pool very shallow.

I'm just deathly afraid of grabbing another Andrea Bargnani with a top 5 pick. With this pick I'm looking for safety. Get the guy that looks like the real deal and not the guy you think may be the guy down the line. I have no faith in our scout director outside of the U.S

Just to be clear, if you play above the rim in the European leagues, you can still play above the rim in the NBA. The basket is at the same level.

And LOL at Vesely being more likely to adapt to the NBA. He's even skinnier and a terrible rebounder for his size. It translates to nothing. Where's the math?

we dont know about valanciunas midrange jumper because he dont use that game for now,his coach trifunovic have his game plan and everyone plays like he wants, but seeing his ft % he is capable for jumpshots i think, jonas once atempted three pointer when they played vs zalgiris and he got it in lol it was his first and last one atempt.

Primoz Brezic.

There is a 0% chance Colangelo takes Valanciuas with a top 5-6 pick, and thank god for this. There is also a 100% chance Kanter goes well before both Valanciuas and Motiejunas, and thank god for this also.

Sullinger is beasting today against Wisconsin's talented frontcourt. 21 pts and 8 boards in impressive fashion.

After watching two prime candidates for our pick this wknd, I cam away impressed wth both players. Harrison Barnes and T.Jones are still great prospects for us for different reasons. I like barnes jumper and his overall feel for the game. He has the makings to be a big time player and he looks like he wants that role. TJ is going to do a little bit of everything for you. He looks to dominate more than barnes. TJ impact will be from all over the court on both sides of the ball. He looks a lil stiff with the ball and his shot isn't there at all yet. I'd have to give the nod to Barnes tho, his shot is pretty. If Jones had Barnes shot tho, he'd be #1.

Harrison is again beginning to make my figurative basketball mouth water. If not Kyrie I'm on board with Harrison Barnes and there's no doubt in my mind.

There aren't gonna be a lot of teams with wing combo like we are going to have if we take Harrison Barnes/TJ or even PJ. The makeup will be very interesting but I like it. We'll definately need an uptempo pass 1st gaurd to go along with em.

I think we have to accept our growing pains and just all out tank the 2011-12 season if we pick one of those wings this draft. We'd take one step back to take a huge leap forward if we could draft one of the projected 2012 point guard draftees.
