The San Antonio Spurs signed guard Othyus Jeffers of the Iowa Energy for the 11th Call-Up of the 2010-11 NBA Development League season.

Jeffers (6-5, 200) has started 36 of 37 games with Iowa this season, leading the Energy to an East Conference-leading 30-10 record. An NBA D-League All-Star, Jeffers ranks among the league leaders in points (21.1 ppg, 2nd), rebounds (9.0 rpg, 7th) and steals (1.9 spg, 4th). Jeffers has scored in double figures in every game this season, and was twice selected as NBA D-League Performer of the Week.

It was just annouced the other day. Don't know much about Jeffers but he should give us some extra depth at guard. Hopefully he works out.

I remember reading somewhere that Jeffers is widely regarded as the best defender in D-league.

I love how the organization has made the 13th, now 14th man a revolving door. Spurs have been able to see so many players throughout the season. I really hope we find a gem out there. Talk about them doing there due diligence.

If one of these D league guys can stick that would be huge for the league.

But honestly, I'm losing hope on finding guys from the D-league. I get that the D-league is good for us when we tried to develop Ian by sending him there. Or when we used the D-league so James Anderson get some burn before playing a real NBA game with us.

There has been some guys that we have from the Toros... All the way from Garrett Temple, Malik Hairston, Alonzo Gee, Curtis Jerrells, and whoever else I forgot to mention. As far as finding someone from the Toros, it's been a failed experiment IMO.

The Spurs this year has went out of the box and go after D-leaguers from DIFFERENT teams. That's why we see Larry Owens, Steve Novak, and now Othyus Jeffers. Hopefully we have more luck finding guys from the whole D-league instead of from just the Austin Toros.

One guy that I thought could fit well here is Joe Alexander from the D-league. He has improved and is one of the best players left in D-league. He has the size to play SF/PF. He's got the best athleticism compared to anybody we have. He rebounds the ball. Rebounding is something that should translate here. He even averages 3.5 assists in D-league. Most importantly, he fits well with our running game and he's a SF who can bring the ball up. Something we've told Jefferson to do (Or so I read) but doesn't really work.
