James Jones' comments

James Jones tonight: My main thing going through all this, do I want to be a starter in the National Football League? No question.

Jones continued: Do I feel like I’m a starter? No question.

Jones continued: I know we have something great here. This team can win some championships for the next couple years.

Jones: But, at the same time, I do want to be a starter. I don’t know if that’ll ever happen here with Donald (Driver) playing until he’s 40

So basically, he wants to stay but he wants to leave.

Good riddance to one of the most over rated guys on the roster.

I don't blame the guy, there are a lot of teams in the league that would love to have him as a #1 or #2. That being said if we keep him, I see him eventually becoming our #2. It's just a matter of whether TT offers him enough money and if he is willing to wait a year or two. The draft will tell us exactly what TT thinks of the situation.

Maybe he should think about becoming better than Driver before Driver turns FORTY.

3 out of the 4 quotes he said he wants to be a starter.

Also, fact: Jones had 2 or fewer catches in 8 games this season.

Jones had better numbers than Driver and Driver wasn't immune of the drops and had at least one major fumble that I recall. I'd take Jones over Driver all day at this point in their careers.

Thing about Jones though is his drops have been huge, the guy dropped 2 sure TD in the playoffs alone, one being the damn SB.

And in both games we won by 5 & 6 respectively and very well could have lost and if we had lost it would have been Jones' fault.

It's kinda like Favre with his INTs,Favre lovers say he's played so many years he's bound to have a lot of INT which is true but they always fail to remember that his INT came in such crucial moments.

Has Driver dropped some catches in the past? sure, but he's never dropped sure TDs in HUGE games.

It's foolish to compare Driver probably dropping a 5 yard gain vs the Lions in an October game to James Jones dropping a sure TD in the SUPER BOWL.

Driver would never choke like that.

It's pretty ridiculous to compare Jones and his drops to the NFL's all time leader in interceptions. Plus McGinn reported that Nelson had more drops than Jones this year. I just don't understand how Nelson gets a complete pass for his drops and everyone constantly rips Jones for his. I also don't remember Jones having a drop issue until this season. For some reason all of our receivers seemed to have the most drops of their career this season.

In a perfect world I would like Jones to stay. I think his high profile drops make people forget that he actually has a ton of talent. That's not to excuse the drops, he very well could've cost us a playoff game on 2 different occasions, but I think that potentially replacing Jones with a rookie will be a downgrade next season.

I would ultimately like to keep Jones as well, but since I feel he will leave, I have a raging one for Baldwin/Hankerson/Cobb.

Jones also has a tendency to fumble.

I would love to see the stats on fumbles by WRs last year. I could be wrong but I don't think Jones would be the overwhelming leader.

Odds are that any WR that Ted drafts won't be as good as Jones during his rookie season, but we are getting Finley back to add to Rodgers arsenal of receiving weapons.

The main concern i have with letting Jones go is if next year an injury hits any of Jennings, Driver, or Nelson. If no rookie is ready to step up, the WR core could then get thin quick.

I certainly understand why Ted is letting Jones walk, the guy is so inconsistent. That said, i wouldn't be surprised at all if Jones got over his drops with a new team and became a quality No.2 receiver for another team. If Driver wasn't such a Packer icon, i'd rather see either of Jones/Nelson be the starter next to Jennings.

One thing i wonder about is if there is a WR that was on the practice squad last season that the team might like enough to think that guy could maybe come in and be say a No. 4 or 5 receiver?

I know TT has been incredible at drafting WRs, but I think people are forgetting how difficult it can be to find elite talents at WR. There are 1st round busts every year. Even if we do find a decent WR in the draft, I don't think it's going to be as easy as replacing Jones with a rookie. Usually takes a few years for a WR to develop.

Edit: I kind of repeated what the Dude said, I basically agree with him.

I did not find that, but what I did find is this:

http://wp.advancednflstats.com/playerst ... season=reg

J. Nelson has a 70% catch rate, good for #2 in the NFL.
Jennings: 61%
Driver: 59%
Jones: 56%

This is something I'm struggling with too. Driver has been my favorite Packer for about 10 years now but it would definately be better for the team if he accepted a reduced role and let Jones/Nelson step up like you said.

His 3 fumbles were tied for most in the league for WRs with Santana Moss (93 recs), Mike Williams (65) and Roy Williams (37).
