I think that I'm a bit more positive on both Williams & Thabeet than most of my fellow Rockets Faithful.
Those guys are not "this year" players. They are projects with significant upside. They are both long-term plans and I'm not going to judge them by trash minutes in a season when they really don't matter and were not expected to matter.
I'm a fan of tighter rotations as I feel that it builds a team much better when you have that consistancy. Williams - as talented as he may be - should not be getting minutes ahead of Martin, Lee or Bud. Not right now. Next season, if he is so inclined to reach for the ring, he'll push for playing time. We'll see if he is the long-term fit that Morey envisions, or if he's someone whom we can cut our losses on on the relative cheap.
Jermaine Taylor - I hoped he would flourish here in Houston, but again we are talking about a 10th-man+ on this current roster. If we had kept him then he'd be doing the same thing, manning the pine. I don't think that Taylor will develop into the kind of player that can demand minutes from Martin/Lee in the next couple seasons, but I do think that Williams may do just that in a couple years.
Williams and Thabeet are not about "now." They are not instant gratification parts of this team. We can discuss them until the cows come home...but dudes...we're talking about the end of the freaking bench here!
