Re: Who's Gone This summer? JC or J-smooth
None of those C bring us something.
I would take a chance on:
Resigning and trading JC (7M / y) along with Smoothe, Zaza and our 1st 2012 for Nene, JR Smith (resigned at 5.5M / y) and Al Harrington. maybe taking on Al Harrington salary would allow us to save the 1st and replace by a couple of future 2nd...+ Sy + rights to Gladyr and Akyol if anyone remembers. we could even add rights to digbeu who retired about 10 y ago!
resign Powell and sign a vet 3rd string point: A. Carter or Watson as well as a back-up SF ( Battier-Hill- Moon in oreder of preference)
Hinrich- Teague- Carter
JJ- JR- FA shooter (Diebler)
Marvin- FA ( Battier-Hill- Moon) Damien
Al H1- Al H2- Powell
Nene - Collins- Armstrong
I would love the starting 5 much better; more balanced and more options for Al. We would replace Smoothe and JC1 non sense plays at time by a more steady play at PF-C. Now the 2nd unit might get wild if we would have Teague-JR- Battier- Al H2- Armstrong; very physical, a lot of energy and/but unpredictable!

I thought about the Nene possibility as well, but could not find a reason why Denver would trade for Smoove. They seem to like the Gallinari-Chandler duo at both forward position, and have no other center that is Starter-caliber. And I don't see them having any interest in Jamal.
But yes, this Hawks lineup would be awesome.

Re: Who's Gone This summer? JC or J-smooth
I looked around the league at reasonable Centers and whether the team that has them might be interested in Josh Smith and the only name I came up with was Robin Lopez in Phoenix. They're a team that has Marcin Gortat who's better to start at C and because of Steve Nash have a win now perspective. They've also spent a bunch of money of underperforming forwards who can't break into the lineup. I'm not sure they deal Gortat, nor am I sure they could put together the pieces to salary match Lopez with Josh and make it attractive. I'm just stating that there aren't a whole lot of teams in need at the 4 with anything to offer in the way of a 5.
A better tact I think would be to deal with a team in a position to draft Enes Kanter and serviceable veterans for Josh or to draft Renardo Sidney in round 2 and hope he doesn't meltdown. Another thing to try would be play Josh at the 3, Al at the 4, and Zaza at the 5 banishing Marvin to the bench until he actually works on his game or his contract becomes tradeable whichever comes first. Zaza can be effective if he can bang and doesn't have to worry about offense. He fails when he's on the floor with other one dimensional players like Josh Powell. Maybe we still draft Renardo Sidney to develop as short but thick center.

well I wouldn't won't a Josh trade for Dalembert nor any of the Lopez boys, though all three would be an upgrade of what we currently have at the 5. just not enough to trade Josh for. Now Smith for Nene I would not want to do, but I wouldn't me upset about it, it may even be a good trade for Atlanta. but I can't see Denver doing it. Now Marc Gasol and OJ..... I would do it but I still would miss Josh. I still would rather trade Marvin for one of the Lopez brothers, Dalembert, Przybilla, Haywood, or Bargnani. or even try to make a push for Okur,or Kaman. I wouldn't Josh Smith for anyone of those centers But I would do Marvin plus draft picks. and any one of these would be an upgrade for the Hawks. so which ever one that can be had with Marvin and a future draft pick/s or this years 2nd pull the trigger. Hell even Yi would be a upgrade over Zaza, Collins, and Etan and he is a free agent this summer. More-over, should come cheap. to add ,I believe Yi would have some star power in Atlanta because of the large Asian population Atlanta has.... butts in the stands = more revenue for Mr. Gearon and the boys = superstar free agent signing in the near future ( I hope).

Exactly, the Suns continue to be our team to do a deal.
López is a decent center that, if motivated, fed and protected by a good defense (not the one the Suns play, although I am also a huge Phoenix fan), could be the perfect fit here besides Horford for his price.
If the Suns do not enter the POs or are eliminated 4-0 or 4-1 in the first round by either the Spurs, Mavs or Lakers, which is likely to happen, they will consider trading Nash.
Smith and Crawford could be players they liked because of the toughness, spectacularity and defense of the first and the scoring ability of the second at a reasonable price.
With Hinrich it would seem like we do not need Nash. But this roster would be awesome:
Nash-Hinrich
JJ-Sy-¿Carter?-¿any 2 guard?
Marvin-Wilkins
Horford-Powell
López-Zaza
By the way, Digbeu is still playing in the French Pro A.
And I would not trade Sy until we see him play. 6-7/6-8 point guards/off guards with just 170 pounds and a knack for inventing playes are not seen very often. He needs to adapt to american basketball, but he is still 19.

If Hawks get a center a nice Backup: Ike Diogu could be had for cheap 6th man type, PF/C who can drop 20 efficiently at a moment's notice

sorry I don't agree with you Calpurnia. I wouldn't trade Josh for Nash, Josh is on the upside of his career and Nash is on the downside. although he still looks good now(Nash), what does he have, one maybe two at the most more years of play at his current level. that is not long enough to make a championship run. not unless we get Dwight Howard in 2012.

Well Howard is making it known that he wants to stay in Orlando, so forget the homecoming. Marv for Bargs, Lopez Brothers,Okur, Biedrins, or Kaman (preferably Bargs but will take any)is what the Hawks need to invest time in getting done, and if Bogut can be had with some extra pieces then most definitely take him .Make Josh lose about 10 pounds and get a coach that will force him to use his low post skills and quickness to drive by less athletic bigs and use his athleticism for Alleys in the half court. An occasional 3/long 2 from him could be acceptable if only at a reasonable time, but no more flirting with being beyond the arc. This team is to talented to be losing the way they do, but of course they do need a legit 5 and some salary reductions(Joe,Marvin,Zaza).
I LOVE MY HAWKS MAN!!!
Regardless if they get blowed for 15+

I am tired of this team. I now believe there needs to be a major shake up. we need to get rid of two of the core players, I don't care who leaves. that goes for Horford, Smith, JJ, and JC.

A major shakeup - by itself - is worse than useless. We need to figure out who we are and move that way. Right now, the pieces don't fit.
But Horford just HAS to be a keeper.
If I were Sund, I'd have a list of Centers who are available for Smoove. But he'd better hurry, as leapers like Smoove tend to lose their spring.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

He could always just reconstruct his contract..LOL!
He can't, it's not allowed. Owners had to think it twice, and Joe had also to think it twice. Note that I'm not sure he would be sad if he doesn't win anything, because you can't be dulb enough to think that getting 126M from a team that doesn't pay any Tax can't continue to improve and add some players to help.
Until he's gone, we won't improve the team that much, a bit maybe, but no big improvement, unless the new CBA help us.

There is not only one fact to think about, but many.
Unluckily we are in a division in which there is a team that will be difficult to beat for years to come. There is another one that is noit so difficult to beat, but has a monster in the boards and is a star that will be always over protected by the League.
In both cases our chances to win are linked to get a better inside game.
Against Miami one can win by dominating inside while trying not to give too much advantage outside.
Against Orlando we need someone that can make Howard work his touches, his shots and that makes him pay a little bit with fouls and tireness on defense.
Either we decide that we difenitely have a chance to beat them by being ambitious or we decide that there is no point in trying and just let this group of players end their careers
just like they are playing now, winning some games, putting up a show once in a while...

I hope they don't decide to just let this group play together and end their careers. I hope they decide to be ambitious and get some players in here that would make us able to battle with Miami and Orlando.
