5 Rookie Lineup
Who else loved seeing that? Flip can redeem himself if he goes to this lineup for 10-15 minutes a game for the rest of this lost season imo.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

i'd like to see hamady get more minutes out there. He seemed very hungry right from the get go. He can't be worse than McGee on defense, they essentially fill the same purpose.

Not fair to Hamady IMHO. He seemed to have a much higher bball iq

Its a tiny sample size, but I saw as much I'd expect from mcgee from what Hamady did today. That being said, I'd like to see more of him, he certainly didn't look horrible. All he has to do is play within himself, something Mcgee still hasn't learned to do.

On paper, that's a horrendous lineup. Who exactly is supposed to score? Who can hit a shot outside of 10 feet? Man, this team needs a shooting coach or something.

Wall, Crawford and Booker try to outrun everyone to score while the other two rebound--yeah, Dave Hopla is missed.

This is the point I keep returning to. This team can't hit a simple open jump shot. Scoring and staying competitive in games is going to be a problem until the Wizards learn to do things like that.

Kind of sad isn't it? When a player can't even be bothered to do the little stuff, how much hope can there really be for him to ever develop into a solid contributor.
Seems like the biggest mistake the Wizards ever made was not to send McGee to the NBDL. He could have used some humbling after having his mom fill his head with all this nonsense about what kind of player he can/will be.

Problem is, the NBDL doesn't humble McGee. McGee dominates the physcially inferior competition. The NBDL just isn't a very good developmental tool for big men. There aren't enough good big men on the planet to fill all the roster spots in the NBA, much less the NBDL.

We didn't draft any offensive players last summer, I suspect that we will draft at-least two offensive prospects next time and one big. We also need an offensive system that caters to the strengths of the team.

I really don't think this team has any offensive strengths that a sytem can cater to. The most we can hope for at this point is a system that helps mask some of the more glaring inefficiencies.

Unless we could ship him to the Euroleague. He could stand getting thugged on by skilled but low-talent eurobigs, while working 2-a-days for fundamental skills. Maybe Ted can buy us a DLeague franchise in the spanish ACB league. Or better yet: Russia. Then you dang well better do what the coach asks when the alternative is Russia in February. Though pretty sure Dakota gives 'em a run for the money in that respect. Dakota: the Siberia of the Dleague.

Part of Ted's Take, linked from the Post.
http://www.tedstake.com/2011/03/09/turn ... o-hopeful/
We have executed what is called “creative destruction” and we have 14 players on the roster. Only 3 of these players were on the team last season, a dramatic turnover of personnel. We have one of the youngest teams in the NBA. We have 5 rookies on the team. We have cleared cap space. We brought on new players onto the roster post trading deadline. This is not a gel team. This is a team getting to know one another and a new system and what the rigors of an NBA season are all about.
What we are doing isn’t pretty. Last night wasn’t fun. The pain and losses truly drive me and our staff to improve and rebuild quickly. I am a fan, too. I don’t like seeing our team lose like we did last night.
But I believe in what we are doing. I see no other rational choice. My goal is to turn woeful into hopeful; turn injured into healthy; and turn downside into upside and losses into a winning system.
Thank you for understanding and hearing me out.

Flip's system exists and is run regardless of the personnel on the roster and we've seen the outcome of Flip's system now under several rosters. I would submit that as bad as we are, a different system based-upon the strengths of Wall, Young, Crawford Booker, Blatche, McGee, & Seraphin could do no-worse given our weakness's. Even if we add better shooters next year, it will still be a jump-shooting based offense.

I hear you Ted, but boy is this hard. We're clinging to the rope like you say but it's so hard when the bucket moves so slow and we're so far in the well we can't even see the sunlight.

The Hawks won only 13 games during the 04/05 season. It would have been only 10 if it wasn't for Tyronn Lue doing a very impressive Jordan imitation for 3 games where he scored 30 ppg while shooting insane percentages from everywhere.
Unfortunately the Hawks blew so many of their lottery picks that it killed their chances to be contenders. Childress at 6 over Deng and Iggy. Marvin at 2 over Paul and Deron. Shelden at 5 over anyone with a pulse.
If you are going to blow up your roster and rebuild through the draft you had better make your draft picks count.
