Greatest rapper of all time died on march 9th. I still remember that sunday and my sister waking me up saying she think something happened to biggie because angie martinez is crying. and then i remember telling my pops. then i had basketball practice downtown on 116th street and we all couldnt even talk. then that evening the knicks and bulls played. I will never forget that day.

I'm more intrigued the fact that 9th and Phonte got on a song together again, to me that is the bigger story here.

I think they reconciled last month (or recently...I remember reading something on 2dopeboyz about it).

As for Lil' B...he sucks.

Shawn Chrystopher or XV should have taken his spot on XXL Freshman for 2011...both of them should be on it.

I agree with you on the Lil B part, I was taken by surprise when 9th started talking about him on twitter. Apparently hes actually a really smart guy, but I still cant get over songs like look like jesus and wonton soup.

Kinda half-assed it as I'm watching the Knicks game, and not paying any real attention to the essay, but here's what I got.

The Essay:

Jermaine Cole otherwise known as ''J. Cole' is an up and coming artist whom has recently signed with ''Roc Nation,'' Jay-Z's record label. J. Cole has came a long as he has fought adversary throughout his entire life. From living in a trailer, to never seeing his father, to having his brother in jail, Cole understands the problems of life, and it is clearly shown in his songs. J. Cole is a product of one of the most frightening places in the US.,Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he was raised by his mother. Cole realized that there was no potential in the slums of Fayetteville, so he decided to use education as his way out, and stepping stone to reach his potential as an artist. Cole attended Saint Johns University of New York, where he majored in communications and minored in business. J. Cole was very unique in this regard, as it is unheard of for a rapper to go to college, and Cole graduated with a magna cum laude.
As an artist, Cole dropped his 1st official mix-tape, which is known as ''The Come Up.'' This mix-tape goes unnoticed by most fans, but this is where Jermaine really starts to grow as an artist, as a few of my personal favorites to this day, are on this mix-tape. However, Jermaine wasn't finished after one strong mixture. One of his first most popular songs, ''Lights Please,'' started to gain hype around New York. Ultimately, Jay-Z sat down with Cole to make him the first officially signed artist to ''Roc Nation.'' Ironically, J. Cole attempted to contact Jay-Z just a few years before the signing, but he was disappointingly denied access to meet Cole. ''Lights Please'' became his first single as an artist.
As hype grew around the neophyte artist, he decided to drop his second official mixture, ''The Warm Up'' which is known as a classic to many critics. Cole was still a member of the underground rap community, as he was not getting the radio time he deserved. 2010 was a life changing year for Cole, as the hype around him grew. He was featured on hits including ''All I Want is You, A Star Is Born, Beautiful Bliss, and Kanye West's Good Fridays.'' Later in the year, he released his latest mix-tape, ''Friday Night Lights.'' This mix-tape has been dubbed the mixture of the decade by many critics, and has given the hip-hop community a glimmer of light for the dark path that it's taking. Cole has finally received the attention that is deserved, and I expect him to take full control over the industry in the near future. His debut album, ''Cole World'' is scheduled to release in the Summer of 2011.
I have been reluctant enough to see him perform live on 3 different occasions. He is a lyrical genius, with a hunger unlike any other artist. His problems can relate to me, and he has carried me through a lot of my tougher times in life. J. Cole will always have a special place in my heart as I was a big fan of his back in early 2009, where he was an unknown artist fighting through tough times.

I've been in the class since September. I guess it's a 101 class. Kinda for beginners.

I didn't really copy/paste anything from Wiki. His background is pretty basic, so I tried to spice it up as much as possible. Thanks for reading, btw.

I've only seen him once at a Wale concert, but I have tickets for his concert in AC on the 29th. I had to add in that I've seen him a few times to solidify my grade.

It should be lucky enough to see him, not reluctant.

Aside from some grammatical/vocab errors, it did it's job - gives good background on Cole. If you want to, you can put some lyrics of his in the essay and talk about how they relate directly to you.
